The inaugural Indian Pacific Wheel Race is shaping up to be a huge showdown between some of the world's strongest ultra-endurance cyclists. The 5,500km race is a solo, single-stage, unsupported, 5,500 km road cycling race ocean-to-ocean across Australia. The course is 100% sealed. The race starts on 18 March 2017 at 6:00 am in Fremantle, Western Australia and finishes at the Sydney Opera House whenever a rider gets there. The clock does not stop. There is no prize money. Nothing is at stake except honour. It’s like Hunger Games on wheels.
We have worked super hard to make sure this race will get the very best coverage that bikepacking racing has seen. We've seen firsthand that telling the compelling stories that unfold in such races inspires people to take on big challenges, whether they be in cycling or elsewhere in life. We also think the athletes competing are incredible and their abilities mind-blowing. We'd like to continue to raise their profile to help them with whatever comes next.
The Indian Pacific Wheel Race will be covered by a professional film crew travelling in a car following the race. Regular updates will be posted on social media and daily video updates will be produced and shared. We are also hoping to provide live video crosses to the race itself so race fans can see both the race and the riders unravel in real time. With your help, we're confident that we can bring the race into lounge rooms, offices and devices of the world. The internet is our stadium and we want to make sure it sees this amazing race unfold.
While we have the support of a couple of amazing sponsors, staging and covering the Indian Pacific Wheel Race has still been a very costly hobby for a couple of very passionate race fans. It is not a commercial operation. They have gone deep into their pockets to get the race to where it is and they are totally happy to do that! But, if you like what you see, if you're inspired by the efforts of the riders, if you want to see more, if you want to be part of it yourself and feel like you're helping to make it happen, please contribute to the cause! Together we can make this amazing!
Funds raised will go towards the cost of covering the race which include: film crew expenses for several weeks, film / photographic equipment, vehicle hire and fuel costs, staff to coordinate regular updates from out in the field / media, and editing costs to produce a longer format documentary. We would be ever so grateful for your help.
