Support James 'Butch' Corcoran

My Dad's name is James "Butch" Corcoran. Some of you may know that this past year, in November 2017, my Dad had suffered a mild stroke while driving at the wheel. Different complications led him to being kept in the hospital for a long period of time, many related to his car accident along with the repercussions of experiencing a stroke. My Dad has always been a true left-hander, so regaining strength and functionality of his left side has been quite an experience for him. Over the past few months, he has progressed tremendously being able to be transferred to different Rehabilitation Hospitals and Centers. As of this exact moment in time, my Dad is now recovering at home.

My Dad has never been able to sit still, for as long as I have been alive he was always doing something or another. He is a very intelligent, perceptive, and strong man so having his body fail him is a difficult thing for him to experience. After my Dad graduated high school, he and my Grandfather both served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. There are many stories about my Dad losing so many comrades in battle that it is actually hard for me (and I'm sure him as well) to speak about what happened there. Until this day, my Dad still physically suffers from things he was exposed to while he was there.

After returning from the war, my Dad joined the Honolulu Police Department where he retired after more than 26 years of service. Career Day was always something fun to force my Dad to participate in as a kid. I distinctly remember going to school in a Surveillance Van (the words "Don't touch anything" really did apply in that situation). Since my father does not understand what the word "retirement" actually means, he went on to volunteering his expertise in helping with the Middle Eastern conflict in Iraq. He taught classes on convoy protection, security detail, and tactical team organization. When he came back home to Hawaii, this restless man went to become a Security Coordinator for "Hawaii Five-0" (yes, THAT tv show).

Although my Dad is doing much better, he still has a long way to go on his road to recovery. This road is unfortunately turning out to become an expensive one that his limited insurance does not often cover. My sisters and I are banding together with our family to ask everyone for their help and support. We want to give our Dad the best opportunities for care as much as we can. Even as he tries to recover at home, he still has Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy he must complete weekly. Our Dad spent his entire life protecting others, our wish is to now protect him back.

All of the money raised will go directly to our Dad to put towards all of his incurring medical expenses. In addition to this GoFundMe account, we will also be holding a Fundraising Benefit on Sunday, May 27th, 2018 at the Honolulu Beerworks (328 Cooke St.) from 5pm-10pm. We are in the process of pre-selling tickets for $20 to help offset whatever costs we can manage for our Dad. We would love for everyone to join us and help support our Dad in anyway that you can. Please also share any stories of memories you may have had with our Dad in the comments. We want him to know how much he has touched other people's lives over all of these years as well.

Thank you so very much from all of Butch's daughters,
Jarisse, Stacie, and Jarrica Corcoran
