Dear Family and Friends and Cancer Opponents.

Our 27-year old son, Jake, has stage III testicular cancer.  With only 3 stages of testicular cancer, it is a scary and difficult diagnosis. His is rare and aggressive – 100% Embryonic Carcinoma.  And because he is intelligent, stubborn, independent, hard-working and young – we’ve asked, if we can fundraise and he firmly says NO! … each time.  YOU all kept asking, ‘What can we do??’

His chemo routine is grueling. The stress of not being able to work has taken its toll. This new reality is setting-in, and with some persuasion, Jake is now accepting help. So, here we are … asking you to financially support Jake in his steadfast battle against cancer that knocks you down to the ground at unexpected times of the day, only to be pulled back up by a different hand and many kind faces. Katie, his significant other, writes:

Like any good love story, Jake's cancer tale starts in Paris. While on a long anticipated vacation with our friends, abdominal pain set in along with jet lag. Upon our return, a trip to urgent care eventually resulted in a biopsy, PET scan, radical orchiectomy and chemotherapy followed. Squeeze in Jake's birthday and Thanksgiving; it made for an eventful November.

What do college loans, a house remodel and cancer have in common? They drain your bank account faster than a weekend in Vegas. One of those things is enough to cause you to break into a sweat, but to have all three on your plate at once you'll want to curl up into the fetal position. Jake and I were planning on getting through this crap storm on our own supplied with the delicious soup/lasagna/pot roast donations. However, Jake’s mom and dad were finally able to convince us that a fundraiser would help ease the stress that cancer has caused.   ____________________________________________________________

If you haven’t met our son, Katie describes Jake as: Tall, dark and handsome. Humble and lover of a good beer and dogs. Generous and adventurous. Family oriented and a slight germaphobe. Future cancer survivor.

After chemotherapy, he'll require an invasive and risky RPLND surgery to remove all the cancerous lymph nodes in his abdomen that have unionized and joined the tumor party. Few surgeons do this surgery and even fewer are qualified to do the job for Jake, in our opinion. Which means we will travel wherever we need to get Jake to a surgeon that fits the bill. Hospitalization is required for a minimum of a week, if all goes well. But with the exceedingly large blood clots he has developed in his heart, lungs, and shoulder (no thanks to cancer) he is at an even higher risk. This covers the current set of medical costs that Jake is facing right now. Down the road, fertility treatments will not be covered by insurance and will be the next set of emotional and expensive set of hurdles for Jake and Katie.

Jake’s battle with this cancer ‘monster' has been - and will continue to be - very challenging and increasingly expensive. Your donation will help cover medical costs that no 27 year old could anticipate.

“What can we do?”  Consider a donation to help get Jake through this storm in one piece (minus one teste and a lot of tumors) and start life after cancer ahead of medical bills.

In solidarity (in this war called cancer),
