Infants Death Marks Second Tragedy for Gilbert Mom
GILBERT, AZ (KPHO/KTVK) -A Gilbert mother who had to overcome the tragic death of her 3-year-old son is dealing with another round of heartbreak: the death of her 7-month-old daughter.
Stacy Lord said she was at work Monday when she got a call from the child’s aunt that little Olivia was unresponsive in bed. Lord said she arrived at her Gilbert home to find paramedics loading the infant into an ambulance.
“I could tell, she wasn’t good,” Lord said through tears.
Doctors pronounced the baby dead at the hospital. Initially, Gilbert police said the child’s death involved some kind of a fall. According to Lord, doctors have since ruled out trauma and suspect the child succumbed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in her sleep.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Darrell Krueger said investigators were “still working on getting additional details related to the investigation,” and declined further comment.
Last month, Lord marched in the Fiesta Bowl Parade with the Donor Network of Arizona in memory of her 3-year-old son Devohn, whose organs helped save a girl in Utah.
Devohn died in December 2007. Lord said the 3-year-old was running in the house when he hit his head on a glass table. Suspecting a concussion, she took the boy to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed the boy with a skull fracture, and he never recovered.
“I never understood why my son is gone, and now my baby is gone too. And I just don't get it. I don't understand how it happens to anybody in the first place and it's happened to me twice,” Lord said.
Lord said she will have a funeral for Olivia Jan. 17 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Mesa; 1730 W. Guadalupe Road at 10 a.m.
