Memorial Fund for Eva Neufeld

Donation protected
After a five year battle with breast cancer and then leukaemia, Eva Neufeld died on July 27th 2018 at the age of 39 and the world for so many changed forever.

Eva was the loving wife of Karl who lost the love of his life and the mother of Josef and Lena.  These little children, ages 8 and 5, will never fully know the extent to which Eva enriched the life of those she touched. She loved them more than anything else.  Josef and Lena will have memories but those are limited and fade over the years to mere glimpses of times and places, smiles and hugs.

Eva was committed to improving the life and wellbeing of others.  She was a passionate researcher in aging/gerontology and mental health. She specialized in suicide prevention, health outcomes, rural health, risk assessment, and health service utilization patterns. She was an interRAI Fellow and a member of the interRAI Network of Mental Health (iNMH).  She was also chair of the North East Suicide Prevention Network and spent much effort to advocate for better supports to prevent suicide and for those left behind. She spent much time and efforts to help others.  And now is the time for each of us to give back and help her family whom she loved so dearly.

There was much to admire about Eva. She was passionate about her research in aging, mental health and suicide prevention. She completed her PhD in incredibly difficult circumstances with determination, dignity and optimism. Despite much adversity, she fought on and contributed helpful ideas to public discourse related to her work. A truly remarkable woman has been lost.

Eva died far too young. She fought with all of the strength and energy that she had.  She loved being a wife and a mother. She leaves behind a family that must move forward in her absence, without the financial security offered by her determination and strong work ethic.  The family relied greatly on the income of Eva.  In her absence, they will need the love and support of her friends and community to get by in this difficult time.

Eva touched the lives of so many people.  Many have a story about how Eva intersected their life and how they experienced first hand her kindness and warmth. She was a wonderful person.  The common themes in the stories that many of will always remember are the kindness and compassion that Eva had for others, her passion to make a difference in the lives of others, and her dedication to her work, her friends, and her family.

In lieu of donations elsewhere, I am asking everyone who knew Eva to support this campaign directly as all funds go directly to her husband. The money raised will be used to support her young family in their greatest time of need.

Eva - we will love you forever and never forget the kindness you shared to all whom you met
