My Story

Hello, my name is Cameasha Turner. I grew up in Dallas, Texas in a single mother household of 9 siblings. I attended Lincoln High School, where I played on the girl’s basketball team and graduated Valedictorian of my senior class. I was awarded a full athletic scholarship to attend The University of Texas at El Paso. There I had a great 4-year experience as a student athlete. I have accomplished many great things on and off the court, including being 1 of 15 students across the nation to be recognized as an Academic All-American by the NCAA. I am proud to say that I am the first in my family to attend college. I graduated from UTEP as a distinguished scholar and walked across the stage as Summa Cum Laude, with a 4.0 GPA despite the rigorous demands as a collegiate athlete.

I have decided to continue my academic career at The University of Notre Dame Law School instead of playing professional basketball in Europe. My dreams are to become a defense attorney so that I can help assist and inspire people, and to be the voice for the voiceless.

While I have been awarded a scholarship that covers a portion of my tuition, I still have additional expenses. These additional expenses include moving to a new city, personal expenses, purchasing gear for the winter seasons, and all the miscellaneous expenses of being a first year law student. Due to the work load for first year law students, we are prohibited from obtaining a job, so I will not be able to cover these expenses without your help.

I am the first in my family to attend college and pursue a professional career. As a result of this, I have broken my family cycle and I want to make a better life for my family and me. Thank you for reading my letter and considering supporting me. I look forward to one day being in a position to do what was done for me growing up.
