Empowering Ugandan Girls & Orphans

In Uganda, 65% of students drop out of primary school, in large part because school fees are costly and meals are not provided. Meanwhile, 30% of girls dropout due to lack of hygiene pads. Among these dropouts, girls, orphans, and HIV affected students/families are the most vulnerable.
Our team of friends and family is fundraising for Sacred Orphan Vulnerable Child Aid (SOVCA), a registered charitable organization in Kabale, Uganda that provides education, health services, and personal/spiritual development to over 300 students, as well as local employment opportunities to rural villagers. At SOVCA's school, every child is provided breakfast and lunch, every school day, and 30% of its students study for free! 55% of the students are girls and 40% are vulnerable children.
However, the school is at maximum capacity. It currently rents small classrooms and has built temporary structures, with no more room to accommodate growing demand. Donations will be used to support capital projects, such as purchasing land or a bus to provide students with transport. These assets can also be used for income generating projects, such as brick-making, gardening, and local transportation, which in turn will help fund future building projects! Our hope is to seed the school so they may grow sustainably.

In 2012, Patti, Kat, and Josh met John during a visit, and we have all been friends, staying in frequent touch over the years.
