This is our amazing friend/mother/daughter/sister/aunt, Sinéad Lowndes.

Sinead and her family need our financial help and support as they face an unexpected and urgent move to the UK, where Sinead will have to undergo a liver transplant, if not, double organ transplant.

For anyone who is fortunate enough to know Sinead, they will tell you that she is a generous, caring, loving girl with a heart of gold.  She is always the first to reach out to help others in a time of need.  Sinead has shown strength, positivity and a huge amount of bravery, despite how terrified she is of what she is about to endure. She is a true warrior and we feel she deserves one less worry so no donation is too big or too small.

Back in November, Sinéad was a fairly typical 29-year-old woman - happy, healthy and planning her wedding to Stuart, having started a new part time career, while being a devoted mammy to her one year old daughter Paige.

However, life threw sinead a curve ball in November, just 6 weeks before her scheduled wedding day. Sinead felt unwell and ended up in hospital. After many tests, it was discovered that Sinead had a very rare liver condition named Budd Chiari Syndrome. The condition affects one in a million adults. This, she was informed, is a result of a genetic mutation of her blood called Jak2 which means she is now prone to blood clots. Unfortunately what had been discovered is that clots formed both in and out of Sinead’s liver and  in December 2018 she was given news that she would need a liver transplant.

This news meant that Sinéad and Stuart had to postpone their wedding 3 weeks before hand. After a long stint in hospital, Sinead got out just before Christmas and was being monitored in the meantime as an outpatient. They rearranged their wedding day and tied the knot in February 2019. It was the most magical day for all involved.

Very soon after their big day, 4 weeks to be exact,  Sinéad became severly ill again and ended up back in hospital. It has been discovered that she has unfortunately developed another blood clot in her bowel which means she will not be able to receive a liver only transplant, she may need a small bowel transplant also, and a double organ transplant cannot be done here in Ireland.

The complications mean that she will have to have her surgeries in the UK, moving her family there for up to a year from as early as next week.  Sinead will have to be in Cambridge for at least two months awaiting the transplant, and once it is done she will need to remain in hospital for at least a further three months and then stay in london to be close to the specialists for a further six to nine months.

While the majority of the medical costs in the UK will be covered by the HSE, Sinéad and Stuart have medical bills from Ireland. Sinead has had to leave her career, and although Stuart has had to temporarily leave his job, his employers have been incredibly supportive during this hard time and have agreed that when he is in a position to return to work his job will be there for him.  They are now facing a year of living expenses in a foreign country whilst covering their existing bills and mortgage at home with an income that won't make a dent in their monthly expenses and we, her friends and family, think that money shouldn't be something they have to worry about at this time.

We're asking you to donate what you can to help the bravest, strongest, kindest and most amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend through the toughest of times.

Any money raised that Sinéad and Stuart don't need will be donated to the charitable wings of St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin and Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

Well the past week has been information overload but all processed now and ready to kick ass!
We (myself, Stuart, my dad & my brother) met with my consultant about 10 days ago to discuss their plan and although it’s a lot Bigger of a surgery it never knocked my positivity. So basically everything in my lower cavity & liver needs to be replaced, so this includes my small bowel, part of my colon, my stomach, pancreas & liver. It’s the biggest type of transplant you can ever get but they’re so confident about the surgery it’s the recovery that’s the hard bit and unpredictable but I really trust my body to be on my side and get me through!
So as of today.... I am officially on the transplant list!! I’m very happy about this because it means the quicker we start the quicker I recover & get to go home to my uk home for a few months and eventually back to our beautiful little country ☘️
So at the moment they’re prepping me and getting my body ready for the transplant and have told me it could happen quite quick more weeks than months so that’s good to know.
Despite being sick over the weekend & having cabin fever from this bed, I’m feeling strong, ready, positive & looking to the future

Thank you to everyone who are still making donations and to the numerous people who have organised amazing fundraisers & are holding ones in the coming months- you are all so kind & amazing. This has not been a cheap experience so far and I genuinely don’t know what we’d do without every single person who’s helped us and donated.

As you can see our little daredevil & all round sassy lil Paige is loving Cambridge and settling in so well!!

Finally, as always please remember to become a donor it’s the most important part of this whole process for us forever grateful recipients- text Donor to 50050

Hi guys so we,re almost here a week and I am only just getting around to taking my time to read each and every comment and also see how amazingly generous you all have been. You will never know what this means to us as a family- because of you- we have found a place to rent right beside the hospital and can move our little girl over this weekend it also means that please god I can go home there when I’m a little better to get fit and strong before the transplant. Because of you- I have cried with joy and smiled through pain because I know I have such an army of friends, family, friends of family, friends of friends & even strangers rooting for me. Because of you- I’ll never doubt the value of human kindness or forget how amazing our little country is. I miss it every day especially avonmore milk & the bagel factory!! Oh and all my friends & family haha! I am truly in the right place. Magical things seem to happen in this hospital & it was the very first to start a liver transplant programme. I am being assessed and haven’t been given a solid plan yet or put on the transplant list until so but I am being minded with the upmost care & ready to kick the butt out of this.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart- for the donations, the kind words & amazing support ☺️ Please continue to spread the word on organ donation - text Donor to 50050 for your card- give the ultimate gift
