Support Sulayman in Honoring Saikou's Memory

Hi, my name is Ian Garvey and I’m raising funds for my friend Sulayman Sano. Sulayman and his village of Sarre Mawdo in The Gambia have just suffered a major loss that is sending shockwaves throughout the village.

The village elder, Saikou, was very, very sick and lost his life two days ago.

Saikou had buried his children and his wife, and so Sulayman and others in the village became his family.

Sulayman now needs $600 to buy a casket and bury his dearly loved one.

I met Sulayman about half a year ago when he reached out asking if I would give support to the water source fund. I was extremely moved by his love for community and his drive to solve a major community infrastructure need, and I figured I could act as a consultant of sorts and share with him what I’ve learned from fundraising for other causes and provide ideas as the social media landscape changes. We’ve grown extremely close since then. We talk every day, video chat a few times a week. He asks about my family, how my life is, how my health is, and he’ll tell me what’s going on in his world and we’ll brainstorm ways to garner support. While he’s been fundraising to help his community, he’s also faced many personal medical emergencies himself.

He hasn’t received the financial support to go to the hospital for his leg, and now he faces an additional heartbreak and huge financial expense. To make matters worse, if he were to bury Saikou without a casket, he risks being arrested.

Sulayman needs $600 to buy a casket as soon as possible, avoid the risk of arrest, and give his loved one a proper burial.

How Will Sulayman Receive the Funds?

Gofundme will deposit donations into a bank account I keep solely for fundraising. Then, I will do an instant international transfer to Sulayman through a service called Remitly which verifies idenity and location in the transferring process. The transfer fee is a flat fee of $2.99 no matter how much is sent.
