Support Rhode Island Authors

$805 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 20 people in 1 month
Six years ago, a handful of Rhode Island authors met casually to raise awareness for their own books and those created by others in the state.  They formed ARIA –  Association of Rhode Island Authors – never expecting present membership to surpass 300. Some publish traditionally, others choose the self-published route, and others are creating their first book. Annual membership is $35. No positions are paid. All activities are volunteer driven.

We Grew So Fast

Word spread in tiny Rhode Island that local writers would speak pro bono at schools, writers’ workshops and libraries, participate year-round on panels, exhibit at outdoor and holiday festivals, read at poetry nights, mentor and contribute elsewhere to sell and discuss their original works.

The ARIA founders soon became over-burdened with managing events, a Facebook page, email, finances, monthly meetings, and on and on. The annual, free admission Rhode Island Author Expo (ARIA’s signature event) showcases 135 authors and attracts over 1,000 readers. It costs approximately $12,000 to produce. Financial support comes from member table fees, spotty community donations and small grants.

The Business Side of ARIA
Most writers labor at their writing craft. Few make a living from it, which makes it difficult to continuously ask ARIA authors for financial support to expand. Fear of stagnation, or disinterest, might result if the organization cannot grow.  Now a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable education and arts organization, its members hope your tax-deductible GoFundMe donation accomplishes the following:

What We Need

1
.   Hire a firm(s) to create a state-of-the-art, interactive website to showcase members, coordinate an events sign-up and payment page, plus present timely information. Included will be a new logo with brand imaging for universal templates, signage and author collateral.

2.
Purchase podiums, microphones, tripods and recording cameras (now rented) for The Expo, monthly events, and to create permanent social media files related to writing and authors.

3.
Rent a yearly storage unit for equipment and supplies.

4.
Should this campaign accomplish its goal, occasional help will be hired to keep us in line, plus contribute funds to the annual Expo.

We Thank You
Rhode Island’s ARIA authors are dedicated to good writing. With their love of words and your much-needed support, the organization can achieve its worthy goals.
