After five years of training and a rigorous selection process, Nathalia Valdez recently earned a spot on the 12-and-under U.S. National Team in synchronized swimming: a big step toward her dream of competing in the Olympic Games. In doing so, she also continues the Pirouettes of Texas (PTX) legacy of excellence, becoming the eighth PTX swimmer to make a U.S. national team (three of them eventual Olympians).
This summer, after competing with PTX at the Junior Olympic Nationals in Ohio, Nathalia will join her fellow 12U National Team members from across the country for two National Team Training Camps in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over 25 days in July and August, top artistic, strength, conditioning, and technical coaches will work with these young athletes at the Hollywood Aquatic Center to increase their flexibility, gymnastic skills, fitness, endurance, stamina, and teamwork. When the second camp concludes, the team will travel together to Riverside, Calif. to represent the United States of America in the UANA Pan American Championships Aug. 7-11.
While Nathalia’s Team USA appointment is a great honor, and her training will elevate her to the next level, it will also be grueling - and comes with additional expenses. The cost of the two training camps and UANA competition is roughly $6,000 per swimmer, not including travel to and from Las Vegas and Riverside. But that’s where you can help!
Please make a donation to help Nathalia raise the $6,000 required to participate in her national team training camps and compete for Team USA. Though blessed with natural talent, Nathalia has worked incredibly hard to reach this point, swimming with PTX for five seasons, seeking out extra training sessions with world-class coaches, competing in international competitions in Guatemala and Florida, and attending several USA Synchro summer training camps. Her determination and love of synchro have gotten her far – but she couldn’t have done it without the support of her family, teammates, and friends.
