Help Support Maia's Peace Corps Journey
BACKGROUND
Maia Sparkman will begin her 2-year journey as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia in April 2019 (about 5 weeks away). The Peace Corps sends volunteers to communities around the world to provide expertise where needed, to promote better understanding of Americans abroad and to promote better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. During a Peace Corps Volunteer mission, volunteers get a small living expense stipend.
WHY A "GO FUND ME" CAMPAIGN?
Since graduating from Seattle University last June, Maia has worked two jobs to save money to cover school loan payments during her volunteer time abroad. She was successful in her goal of building savings, and took understandable pride in her achievement.
Unfortunately, Maia recently became the victim of a nefarious, terrifying phone scam.
In an effort to protect herself and her future with the Peace Corps, she lost her savings.
By sharing her story, she hopes she can prevent any of her family, friends and coworkers from ever falling prey to phone scams.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Our goal is to help rebuild some of the savings that were stolen from Maia. Together, I think we can help soften the blow that Maia has sustained.
At a time when Maia has been knocked down, it's a good opportunity for us that know and love her to help lift her back up again.
So, if you can, please contribute to this GoFundMe campaign. The GoFundMe goal is less than what Maia lost, and we'll keep it open, even if the goal is hit.

FUNDRAISING MILESTONE - MARCH 10
We are having a going away party for Maia on March 10th, at the Inn at Langley (thanks to the generosity of chef Matt Costello and Maia's coworkers at the Inn). We'd like to present her with a report of funds raised via this GoFundMe, at that party (and if you're on Whidbey, or nearby, please feel free to join the party on the afternoon of 3/10 - watch for updates).
NOTE: If you plan on attending the March10 event, and would like to make a contribution there, rather than through this GoFundMe, there will be an opportunity to do that, as well as bid on some auction items.
We'll leave this GoFundMe active until Maia leaves for Zambia.
