Meeting Ground, Inc. in Cecil County serves the homeless through its four main programs:
Cecil County Men's Shelter – Housing up to 15 homeless men at a time
Wayfarers’ House for Women and Children – Housing up to 15 homeless women and children at a time
Emergency Rotating Shelter – Provides a warm, safe place to sleep at night for an average of 30 individuals during the harsh winter months
Mary Randall Day Center - Serves an average of 80 clients per day. Offering breakfast, coffee, clothing, a place to take a shower and do laundry, and an address to receive mail (did you know a person cannot get a job without a mailing address?). Clients also receive case management services to help them sign up for public or disability benefits and health insurance, help entering drug & alcohol counseling, trainings in job readiness and financial management, etc.
Meeting Ground is struggling financially. In recent weeks the tent encampments that many of the homeless members of our community find a place to lay their head at night have been closed. Meeting Ground has been working with our partners in the community to make sure this change has as few negative effects on our homeless neighbors as possible. These closings, however, have led to an increase in requests for our services.
The winter months are upon us—a time that is always hard for the homeless because of the harsh weather. Without some financial help from all of you, the homeless population in Cecil County will face the hard path towards achieving self-sufficiency and finding a place to call home without the much needed help that Meeting Ground offers. They may find themselves out on the street without the hand up they need.
