Support for James and Lexie

Sometimes in life we figure what we want to do for a career. Sometimes our path changes and we choose to move on to a new one, something different and exciting! James Comer did just that! He chose a new career that would allow him to travel the United States and allow him to see places he’d never seen. He started driving Semi trucks!  His home is in Largo, Florida so you can imagine the excitement of driving across the country! He was nervous because this meant possibly weeks in between seeing his beautiful little girl, Lexie. However the financial and career opportunity was one a person could not pass up!   His first trip came rather quickly, he was going to San Diego, California and back. Being a new driver they sent him on the road with a “trainer” they’d switch off driving and sometimes one would sleep which is common practice in the industry.

Well... June 6, 2018 at 8:20 am, that excitement was ripped  away in a matter of seconds. James was napping in the area of the semi truck designed to rest and his trainer was driving. He felt the bump, bump, bump and then heard the driver shout a profanity and then he woke up unable to feel his legs and feet. The fire men were working diligently to extricate him out through the window of the semi truck which had rolled. Yes you are reading that right! The trainer rolled the Semi truck! He fell asleep at the wheel and caused this terrible accident which could have been a tragedy. After several minutes of being very scared they were able to get him out and he was transported to a landing zone to meet the Medical helicopter and flown to a hospital in ElPaso,TX which was the nearest Level I Trauma Center.

He is lucky to be alive.

The first phone call his mother received stated that they were not sure if he’d ever walk again. He has a Three column fracture of the Thoracic Vertebrae. His T4,T5 & T6 are fractured. He has major head trauma which is causing memory loss and the need for speech therapy. He had a surgery and he’s been able to take a few steps but has had a tremendous amount of pain. We are so thankful that it seems he will walk again with an astronomical amount of physical therapy & another surgery. He is looking at a year or longer for recovery but is thankful to be alive. Please continue to check back for updates. James is eager to get well and walk again if possible. He’s also eager to get home to Florida but will not be able to get there for several months. Many people have  asked how can we help? What can we do? This was the best way we could create something that would collectively support him and Lexie. Financially he will be taking a huge hit. At this time travel expenses are a great need for his friends/family. Once he is able to be home we will set up a meal train but at this time he’s so far away from everyone that the best help will be prayers and financial. Please help him during this time so Lexie can see her daddy and so that some family may be able to go see him and he by his side. It’s awful to be in an unfamiliar place with no one around. Your prayers are appreciated greatly as this is going to be the hardest year or so of his life!
