34172362_1541120795334263_r.jpegOn October 31st while participating in Trunks of Treats with his youth group, Jacob Stevens was critically injured from a freak accident.  After being hit in the chest with a pumpkin, his heart stopped and his lungs were injured from stomach acid.  One of his youth leaders performed CPR while they waited on the ambulance to arrive.  Jacob is currently breathing on his own, but has not regained consciousness since the time of the accident.  At this time it is unknown how long his brain went without oxygen and what the repercussions may be, as he remains in critical condition in CCU.

Jacob is a fun 16 year old who loves his friends and is passionate about music and playing guitar.  He loves to write and is known for poetry.  His friends call him a comedian and just an all around good kid, who loves God.

On top of the medical expenses, his parents and brother have the additional expenses of eating away from home and missing work to be by their young son and brother's side.

Please pray for God to heal Jacob fully and consider donating to aid the family during this devastating time, so the only thing they have to think about is their son.

Keep an eye on channel 5 tonight for an updated story about Jacob. He has been able to visit with his first responders at the station and is continuing to regain strength.

Please continue to pray as he heals that he doesn't become discouraged, he doesn't experience any setback and that he progressively gets stronger.

Free at last, Free at last! Jacob walked behind the wheelchair, he was supposed to be riding in, to visit CCU one last time and tell them thank you on his way home from the hospital!

The miracle we have witnessed cannot go unnoticed. When Jacob entered Northeast Georgia Medical Center on October 31st, he was considered clinically dead. He was not breathing on his own. His heart was not pumping on its own. His brain showed no activity. 12 days, TWELVE DAYS later, he is walking out of the hospital.

Please continue praying and supporting Jacob. While he body is functioning on its own, he will still continue to heal over time. And, as any of you who have experienced medical bills know, they will definitely continue to come in over time.

Please specifically pray for continued healing, rest for Jacob and his family and stamina as they re-adapt to normal life. I think many times after experiencing something extraordinary, it can be hard to return to the norm. As the adrenaline begins to crash, we all need to be there, surrounding the Stevens family still, ready to carry them through the transition.

Thank you all for your continued support. Please check out the video of Jacob, shared yesterday at Cornerstone Assembly. I will post it in the Pray for Jacob facebook group, as I cannot get it to post here.

Exactly one week ago I found myself pleading with God to heal Jacob. I sat in my bed and cried as I awoke every hour throughout the night, begging, yet believing, He was going to do it. God heard us all cry out and yesterday Jacob was able to fully come off the ECMO machine and the ventilator and breathe. Breathe on his own. Breathe air, that I am fairly certain, we all took for granted 8 days ago.

During Jesus' physical time on earth, He performed many miracles, including telling a lame man to walk. In John 5:8-9 we can read His words. "8 Then Jesus told him, “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.” 9 Immediately the man was made well, and he picked up his mat and began to walk." I feel as though we have witnessed a retelling of this miracle in Jacob's life. Yesterday, as they transported Jacob from CCU to ICU they were able to sit him up in a wheel chair and he was able to move from the wheel chair to his new bed on his own two feet.

Because there were so many updates in the last 24 hours, I'm going to use bullet points to summarize.
- Jacob was taken off the ECMO machine
- He was able to come off the ventilator
- He was moved from CCU to ICU
- He took a few steps during the move
- His lungs, which were supposed to take months to heal, are now supporting his body
- He has returned to his secret life of comedy, keeping everyone around him laughing

Continued prayers include:
- That his lungs will continue to heal to a point of no damage
- That his entire body will continue to regain strength
- Specific prayers as he begins Physical Therapy today
- That his pain remains manageable
- That he will be able to be moved to a regular room soon
- For a return to home in the near future
- Rest for his family
- That we will not forget the community that has been formed during this time and we will continue to seek God in every aspect. I know my life has been forever changed.

Thank you, all for your continued support.

Wow! That sums up my thoughts on today.

First off, I want to wish Jacob's mom, Jan a very happy birthday. There were many celebrating her birthday with her in the waiting room today. I was glad I was able to get there and give her a birthday hug and deliver another great meal from a friend. Thank you all for being their village and providing food and support during this time.

I know most of you saw Trevor's story from last night. He told Jacob he couldn't reach him to kiss his forehead and Jacob motioned for him to lean in and he flipped Trevor's hat off with his finger! I know this was very encouraging to Trevor. Well, Jacob's ability to show humor in the difficult times didn't stop there. While I was there today, Trevor recounted the story and Jacob was laughing so hard he was gasping. He then was trying to push his tube to the side, he REALLY wanted to talk with us. The nurse brought him a piece of paper and a pen and he wrote the picture you'll see below: "And all I freakin did was get hit by a pumpkin"

At one point I tried to count all of the tubes going into him and probes connected to him and he rolled his eyes and then started pointing to others. I truly have no clue how many there are, but we decided we would just settle on 16.

With the tubes and probes in mind, Jacob is still receiving a lot of outside help to keep his body going. They are turning them down every day and working towards allowing his body to function on its own. He still requires A LOT of rest. They are not sedating him like they were, but he does remain in a room with just nurses mostly, limiting even his time with family, so he can heal and regain strength. Please continue to pray as they turn down the ECMO machine. Pray specifically for his body to continue to react well and for his family to not grow weary in the waiting. They do believe God is in the waiting, but that doesn't make it easy.

I know many of you reading this update may not believe in God or may not understand prayer or what we are even talking about when we give God the glory in a difficult situation. It is difficult at times, but Hebrews 11:1 tells us that "Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being certain of what we cannot see." It isn't always about the things we can put our hands on and physically touch, but it is seeing a village come together and support one another and believe God will heal.

Thank you all for being a part of this village and thank you for allowing me to share these updates with all of you.
