Aura and Allan were released at the Arizona border on December 31st, after three days in detention, following a difficult month crossing Mexico from their hometown in Guatemala. They left their home as a last resort to escape threats by gangs in their neighborhood. ICE ordered them to attend "check-ins" and fitted Aura with an electronic monitoring device; their status is still up in the air.
Aura and Allan have ended up in Winston-Salem, and we are fundraising to help them build a new life here, where they don't yet have any connections. We're raising money to help them rent and furnish an apartment and pay for their initial legal expenses in seeking a path to legal status.
We may not be close to the border, but we can stand against the Trump Administration's policies by supporting people like Aura and Allan. Please donate today.
