I have always known my sister Eva to be a strong and courageous young woman, working hard to raise two kids on her own and overcome any obstacles that life has thrown at her. On Thursday, November 15th, 2018 she proved her strength and will to live ten times over when gun men broke down a door of her friend’s house and began shooting at her and her friend in an attempted robbery. Eva was shot nine times during this ordeal, suffering damage to her lung, kidney, pancreas, diaphragm, duodenum, stomach, liver, colon, left leg, left arm, and right hand. Resulting in over 9 and ½ hours spent in two extensive surgeries to fix the internal damage and her hand. Her spine and hip were also fractured by the bullets ricocheting through her body. It is nothing short of a miracle that Eva survived this horrific event, her dear friend Joey did not. While lying there waiting for help, Eva fought the pull of oblivion thinking only of her children and how they needed her to survive this tragedy.
We are all beyond grateful that Eva has made it this far and is recovering in the hospital; however, we are not naïve to the fact that her journey has just begun. She will require extensive hospital care and mental and physical rehabilitation. Throughout this, Eva is very concerned about paying for her bills and the needs of her two children, 5 and 6 years old. We would be grateful for any assistance you would be willing to offer to allow Eva to make a full recovery without worrying about how to pay for her bills. We completely understand that not everyone is able to donate and are also very grateful for you to carry Eva and her family and friends in your hearts and pray for an uncomplicated road to recovery.
