This fundraiser is for the support of a unique, Afrikan centered, partial immersion school for children of Afrikan descent in Ghana at the primary (Kindergarten to eighth grade) and secondary levels (ninth grade to twelfth grade). The unique design and high quality of our program is historical and unprecedented. Therefore, we are requesting financial assistance to fully implement and support this project.
Abibifahodie Adesuabea (Afrikan Liberation School) is a learning program and entrepreneurial training school that emphasizes the utilization of the Mother tongue in all areas of learning. It is has an Afrikan language immersion component that encourages children to acquire their knowledge of mathematics, science, art, literature, etc. through mainly the Twi language and other Afrikan languages. It is an Afrikan-centered school that focuses on learning from an Afrikan perspective using practical Afrikan traditional methodology.
The creation of this school has developed in response to an overwhelming request by dissatisfied parents who know that many of the current school curricula are failing our children. Studies done by UNESCO & USAID on Afrika have shown that most children do exceptionally well when they are allowed to learn in their mother tongue. Programs to implement mother tongue learning in Mali, have shown a 30% increase in test scores for math, science, and other subjects over a 1-year period as compared to their French, or English-speaking counterparts. Over the course of 6 years, proficiency had increased by a significant amount. This study also included countries such as Papua New Guinea and Peru with similar results. (Mother-tongue Matters: Local Language as the Key to Effective Learning, UNESCO. 2008).
For countries such as China and India, children learn in their mother tongues. Foreign languages such as English are taught as separate courses, rather than forcing children to speak a foreign language as the only language for acquiring their education.

Our approach to teaching is Afrikan-centered, in that we focus on teaching all subjects with Afrika as the foundation for learning. The children will have an understanding of world history, for example, from an Afrikan perspective; teaching the contributions ancient Afrika has made to world civilizations both past and present. The current colonial, British, and American curricula that dis-include the fact that ancient Afrikans wrote the first books of the world and created the mathematical theorems that are utilized in our current IT systems is to the disadvantage of our youth. Afrikan-centered schools in the U.S. have found that teaching such information to Black children inspires them to perform better in school and encourages them to show stronger interests in learning and achieving their career goals.
Additionally, our entrepreneurial development program will provide them with the skills needed to fill the professional sectors, while building skills in self-sufficiency and leadership. With the current direction that we are moving in regards to global development, it is imperative that our children will not only learn the skills to contribute to society, but to also be able to create businesses and wealth for themselves that would be for the betterment of the community, nation, and world as a whole. Our entrepreneurial leadership program will give them the skills needed to be entrepreneurs. We teach practical information that will help them create businesses that are within their passion/interests, are sustainable, and that are socially responsible.

Critical to our program is our Afrikan-centered methodology. Learning is child focused, interdisciplinary, interactive, hands-on, and communal. It is child-focused in that we gear our classes towards what interests each child. It is interdisciplinary in that each subject integrates other subjects into it. For example, math class may involve tactile activities that cross into other subjects, (such as physical education, art and mechanical engineering) that require math to complete the activity or to achieve a goal. It is interactive and communal in that children will work together to gain comprehension while learning. Our methodology is also hands-on in that we require children to learn through using the information in context rather than the traditional western methods of reading about it, copying from a board, or regurgitating back information that is given.
An Afrikan-centered school taught in Afrikan languages is an answer to many of the challenges our children are currently experiencing in education. It is an innovative solution that is at the forefront of pedagogy.
Our Board of Directors includes many people with a wide range of diverse skills that span over 50 years of education. These include various professors and deans within the University of Ghana, as well as school administrators, child psychologists, historians, linguists in Ghana and throughout the world. These judiciously chosen members, who are at the top of their fields, have committed themselves to providing their guidance and expertise towards the success of this school.

Our goals: Abibifahodie Adesuabea is the leader in innovative and progressive pedagogy for Ghana. Being the sole school currently in Ghana to provide such a unique and high-quality education, we expect to expand our numbers by growing our student population and building facilities in multiple locations.
The total of $476,500 will allow us to proceed to the next phase of our plan to expand our school, and enrich the lives of our students and support our staff.
