Hi all! We learned that our bright and bubbly Dominick will be fighting stage 4 cancer for the 2nd time in his short 6 years. Dominick was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma right after his 4th birthday. Since then, he has endured 3 years of chemo, surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy, and we were soooo close to finishing his maintenance treatment. Unfortunately, we were given the news that he has relapsed and will be going through everything all over again. We will need help surviving and can't express our gratitude and appreciation for any donations or help.
Neuroblastoma is a rare and very aggressive nerve cancer that is treated very intensely. At diagnosis, his chance of survival was 50/50. Relapsed neuroblastoma survival chances are less than 5%. While we wrap our minds around not only the statistics but having to go through everything again, we know we are going to need help getting by for the next few years. Dominick's relapse will mean intense treatment for him, job and financial loss for me while undergoing treatment, and expenses for traveling to and from treatments as we get treated here in North Carolina and New York. Daycare for our littlest will also likely be a burden we will endure again.
- More than anything, prayers and positive vibes. For Dominick to beat this, for good. For me and Dad to stay strong and make good decisions for Dominick. For our other 2 boys who will go through missing Dominick and me and having to watch their brother relive this again. William will not really understand why, and Nathan will worry about the mortality of his brother. Nathan is already a very anxious 11-year-old having 2 brothers with life-threatening illnesses.
