My name is Aneila Afsar and I am current Commonwelath Champion in Taekwondo. I started Taekwondo at 6 and have been infatuated since, dedicating all my spare hours to training. I began competing internationally at 13 and became a member of the GB junior squad at 14. My notable achievements include:

-3 x British National Champion
- British International open: Gold
- South Dublin Championships: Gold
- Swedish Open Championships: Silver
- Belgium Open Championships: Silver
-Belgium Challenge Cup: Gold
- Dutch Masters Championships: Gold
-London International open: Silver
- Serbia Open Championships: Silver
- Chi Ireland Championships: Gold
- Taekwondo Commonwealth Games: Gold
- Berlin Open Championships: Gold

In 2017 my husband and I were blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Mira. I returned to training 5 weeks after she was born and have since been wondering whether it is motherhood or training that has me so exhausted. I competed in the Quest open 3 months later, 16 weeks postpartum. I won my semi finals 56-2 and my finals 22-8. Being a mother and a Taekwondo athlete means I'm constantly juggling nappies and kick pads but hard work is only half of the story. I am surrounded with a team of extremely supportive people including my husband, family and coaches - allowing me to continue my  training regime.

I've overcome many difficulties in training postpartum, however the obstacle I now face Is lack of funding. I am a self funded athlete. Being over 18 means I am no longer eligible for mainstream funding such as SportsAid. Moreover, being a female athlete with a child unfortunately means many organisations would, wrongly, consider me a dormant athlete.

I hope to raise enough money to continue competing internationally, until I can secure a regular sponsor. I intend to use the money raised from this campaign to compete in major international tournaments this year. Success at these competitions will increase the likelihood in selection for the World Championships in Manchester next year. My ultimate goal is to one day compete at the Olympic Games with my family by my side. Success in these competitions is a step in the right direction, but will only be possible with enough funding.

I hope to be a role model for mothers who believe they can no longer be involved in sport. I intend to set aside stereotypes, break barriers and take titles, all with my Mira by my side. I am looking for individuals who will now support me to make this possible. I would appreciate every and any donation made.
