Ilene Gilmore and I chose to start this Gofund me account to help our friends Jody and Kyle Horn. Jody and Kyle have a beautiful family which includes 3 pretty awesome boys. Their youngest Matthew whom is only 5 months old is currently in and out of medical facilities, hospitals and Doctors to try to find the care he needs. Matthew was diagnosised with Laryngotrachealbronchomalacia, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, aspiration and sleep apnea and tracheal tug. They're looking into cardiovascular and genetic issues. Usually tracheomalacia/ laryngomalacia is very common in premie babies because they didn't have time for their airways to develop before birth. So, 90% of kids outgrow it.. But, they're more susceptible to hospitalization because any respiratory infection can affect their already compromised airways. It's "common" in a sense that it's not unheard of.. But to have all three is very rare and to have them severe is even more rare
especially since Matthew was a full term baby. So when Matthew inhales his larnyx collapses and his epigilotis sucks onto his airway (like a wet balloon being sucked into a tube), When he exhales, his bronchial tubes and trachea collapses so he's not getting enough oxygen, especially at night during REM sleep. He's aspirating so when he eats or drools, it's going into his lungs. They sectioned it out last week and sent it in to be tested, it takes a week to hear back but Jody and Kyle were told it's Abnormal and different bacteria has grown so that's not good... Anyone with a cold who gives it to Matthew could kill him or hospitalize him. Not many doctors are knowledgeable on this because most people outgrow it and most were premies.. So U of M has performed all tests they are capable of and then they're sending us to Boston because that's their specialty in hopes Matthew can get the best treatment he needs. We are hoping that this Go Fund me can help Matthew, Jody and Kyle with medical bills, treatments, travel costs and living expenses since going through all this Kyle is still working full time and Jody is still in college classes.
