SuperMax and his Battle with Cancer
Donation protected
Meet my nephew Maximus Roy (aka Supermax). At the age of 3 in the summer of 2015, Max was diagnosed with Leukemia. His family and medical professionals began the long battle for his life. In late 2015, Max was diagnosed in remission, but CHOC, following protocol, performed surgery after surgery and forced him to continue the grueling chemo treatment for over 3 years. Max and his family have endured many trips to the emergency room in the middle of the night, blood transfusions, blood tests, steroids, anesthesia side effects, countless sleepless nights in and out of the hospital. School, field trips, parties and family gatherings have passed Max by. Even family visits were restricted due to his compromised immune system.
On January 30th of 2019, Max hit his 3 year 6 month mark, and chemo was coming to an end. The port that was installed in his chest for chemo for over 3 years was removed and the hospital had a lovely goodbye cancer ceremony for him. Max was DONE and could finally return to his life as a happy, healthy 7 year old boy.
Max and his family (Richard, Martha, and Isabella) were absolutely thrilled. Every time I spoke with them, they were so excited to celebrate life - they wanted to go everywhere and do everything possible with Max since he has missed out on so many things due to his illness.
On March 31st, these hopes and dreams turned back into an unthinkable, devastating nightmare for Richard and Martha.
Max started having back pain and was not feeling right shortly after the port removal. After numerous trips to the hospital, 5 blood tests, a bone biopsy, 6 scans and x-rays, the worst possible news was confirmed. Max's bone marrow was over 95 percent Leukemia. At this time he was put through a month of high-dose chemo in hopes of knocking down the cancer. After the month was over he was physically, emotionally and mentally weak. He was tested again and the cancer was still in his system.
This brings us to present day. Supermax has continued to be a positive and happy 7 year old boy. He loves trains and is an expert on all types. He has a dog and loves walking him. Max loves the outdoors and nature. He is extremely bright and amazes his home school teachers. He is loved by everyone he meets. You would never know this young boy is even sick (except he has no hair because of the chemo).
He is back on chemotherapy treatments and is getting ready to go through t-cell transplant at City of Hope on 7/1/2019 . This will force him back into the hospital for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks and again we will deal with all the risks of chemo treatment.
Richard and Martha have met with specialist after specialist, along with holistic doctors to build the right treatment plan for Max. They will do whatever it takes to beat his cancer!
Most recently Max has begun a holistic treatment, prescribed by integrative holistic pediatric cancer doctors and specialists. This therapy does not interfere with his other treatments and current studies show these types of treatments are successful in the treatment of various cancers. He is on an all organic, gluten-free, all natural, raw food juicing, non-GMO diet. He gets weekly injections of supplements and vitamins. we are currently waiting for results of a RGCC Blood research and test in Greece, NONE OF THESE TREATMENTS ARE COVERED BY INSURANCE and amount to over $3000 a month and will probably go on for the rest of his life.
Richard, Martha, Isabella, and Max are some of the strongest people I’ve ever met and I’m hoping our community will help support my family through this horrible time. Any donation you can provide will help my family. Please consider helping my 7 year old nephew. Any unused or excess funds raised will be donated to the pediatric Cancer research center at City of Hope.
