Supt. of Public Instruction

My name is Malcolm Norrington. I am running for the office of Superintendent of Public Instruction in the state of California. The majority of my K-12 education has taken place in public institutions in the state of California. Once I completed the arduous and yet exciting task of completing college at a state university I was gainfully employed as an educator. I have worked as an educator throughout Southern and Northern California . I even taught in the South where I continued to teach and learn with great humility and gratitude. Throughout my professional career I have had the opportunity to lead teachers, administrators, students, police officers, community members, and parents. I have watched the many programs, acronyms, professional developments, etc. that the profession provides educators in order to improve student learning. What I’ve come to learn is that no one pill is going to cure all. That is an old fashioned view when it comes to diversity. In this age of education, where diversity has been the buzz word for so long, diversity of action is frowned upon. We need to take care of our teachers first and foremost. Our students are not going to excel at the level we expect until we show our teachers through, increased monetary compensation, support, training, freedom, healthcare, and love that they are excellent. It’s time to erase the fact’ “teachers don’t make enough money!” We need to erase this fact by providing them greater compensation. We have to take care of the teacher first. If the parents aren’t taken care of then the children in the home will suffer and will not be well taken care of. On an airplane the instructions are to strap your oxygen mask on first and then strap on your child’s afterwards. Teachers must be taken care of first before we can expect our students to perform as well as they can. I ask that you and a friend pledge at least $1 a week from now until December 31, 2017. During that time you can convince at least 3 friends of yours to each give $2 a week from January 1, 2018- April 30., 2018. Then those three friends convince 6 friends to each give $1 a week from May 1 - October 3. You can always give more and you can always enlist more friends. You can also make a lump sum donation. This effort requires all of us to spread the word and implore our family and friends to get out there and support, and vote for candidates. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to working hard for you, your kids, and all of the other students, staff, parents, community members that work hard to provide our kids with the greatest learning opportunity.
