Trump Sunlight Campaign
This country needs that person to come forward and ensure that we all know the truth that is out there.
Recent developments have lead many to believe that video footage of Donald Trump exists which proves that the person we have all come to know over the past year is not the person that he truly is - footage that reinforces what we have all just recently begun to see more clearly.
There are risks to releasing this footage, including a potential $5 million dollar lawsuit, other legal fees or adverse professional implications.
This campaign hopes to raise the funds to pay those pentalites and reward the whistleblower responsible with whatever remains to assist them as they move forward in their career.
Please help us out and our committee will ensure that at least one barrier to this evidence being presented to the American people is removed.
Sunlight afterall, is said to be the best disinfectant.
We are a group of old friends and colleagues who are fed up with what is going on. If someone comes forward, we will ensure that all donated funds go directly to mitigating any legal costs associated with their whistleblowing.
Any unused funds (or if no one comes forward) will be donated to a reputable organization that supports freedom of the press and journalistic integrity.
It has been a difficult year for many of us.
A few days after the election last year the Sunlight team was struggling to identify how we could best use your donated funds to increase the level of transparency into what we knew would be a difficult presidential administration. Our team held dozens of meetings and phone calls with journalists, think tanks, academics, activists and others in search of this most appropriate path forward.
At one point during our search, I was put in touch with the longtime investigative journalist, Wayne Barrett, a longtime journalist and author of an investigative book on Donald Trump.
I told him that a group of friends and I had raised money through a viral online campaign, and we wanted to use it to support investigative journalists over the years to come. Within just a few minutes of the start of our first conversation, Wayne quickly convinced me through the few questions that he asked that one, I had no idea what I was doing, and two that I should start doing the things he was telling me to do before I did anything else.
Sitting in a coffee shop in Detroit while visiting family for Thanksgiving, Wayne gave me a few assignments from his home in New York - specific people to talk to, specific questions to answer before I started thinking about anything else. Wayne told me to get to work and to check back with him when I had the questions answered. He said he had a couple different ideas on a path forward. I jotted down a list of a half dozen to dos and hung up.
I called the friend who connected me to Wayne and said we had connected and that he seemed like exactly the kind of person who could help. He instantly understood what I we were trying to do, had quickly come up with more than one idea that felt like it could honor our donors wishes and more importantly, was giving me actionable steps I could take that helped me feel like I was making progress toward something. At that point, my friend mentioned an article that the New Yorker had just written about Wayne just a couple weeks prior.

After reading the article, I quickly realized how fortunate I was to have been put in touch with Wayne, and how he had probably made an entire career being the right person to talk to.
A bit later I got back to Wayne with answers to his questions and we had another quick phone conversation. I could tell that he was not overly impressed with what I had given him and he gave me a few more assignments. It felt like I was not exactly living up to his standards. He gave me another few assignments another deadline and sent me on my way. Wayne reiterated that he had thought about how we should proceed over the long run and had a few plans we should discuss during our next call.
Less than a month later Wayne passed away and our communications stopped.
In the months that followed I tried to continue pulling on the threads that which Wayne had handed me. I worked with Private Investigators, spoke to dozens of journalists, met with journalism professors and directors of national non-profits. The first mission was always still The Apprentice tapes, trying to get someone to step forward, to blow the whistle or to find another way to get them into the light of day.
Months passed, dozens of e-mails and calls from individuals claiming they had the tapes came and went though our inboxes. Follow up calls with reporters who had written the articles that gave us the visibility we needed to raise our funds asked: "what have you found?" "what are you doing and who are you working with?" "do you think the tapes are real?"
I reconnected with the person who had put me in touch with Wayne initially, a very old friend of his. I had no plan, but needed someone else to talk to - someone who knew what they were doing who could possibly give some guidance. I told him the story of my conversations with Wayne. "That sounds exactly like him" was the reply I got. I was told that one of Wayne's signature moves was having multiple interns at any given time running around town chasing down assignments that Wayne had doled out. Frequently demanding more from them. I felt incredibly honored that I was in even the smallest way associated with that group.
I mentioned that it would be wonderful to use the funds as a prize to be awarded to any journalist that published an article in 2017 demonstrating the greatest work toward driving more transparency into the executive branch. "A Journalism X-Prize" I had called it. And I wanted to name it after Wayne.
I was told that The Nation Institute, through its Investigative Fund was in the process of developing a Wayne Barrett Investigative Fund with the expressed goal of:
… support(ing) ambitious reporting projects focused on Wayne’s major areas of interest: politics and corruption in both New York City and on the national stage. Journalists working on projects that build on Wayne’s previous reporting are particularly encouraged.
Following a number of conversations with folks from the Nation Institute and others who worked alongside Wayne and were involved in this effort, the Sunlight team decided that making a donation to this fund, inspired by Wayne's lifelong career as an investigative journalist and drive to increase transparency throughout public leadership, was our best chance to fulfill the goals of our campaign.

The Wayne Barrett Investigative Fund will enable talented journalists working in print, digital or broadcast platforms to produce deeply reported investigative projects with strong editorial guidance and support. Awards for each investigative project will be $5,000 to $15,000, covering travel, document fees, and compensation for reporting time, as needed.
The SunlightCampaign will make a $25K donation to the Nation Institute in the ensuing days, some additional funds will also be used to reimburse expenses associated with our previous investigative work and others will go toward fees associated with the gofundme platform. Through our participation with the Investigative fund going forward, your voices will continue to be heard as these donations support journalists working every day to drive more transparency into our public discourse.
The Sunlight Campaign will go on, our primary goal has been and always will be trying to ensure that anyone who comes forward and releases any tapes from The Apprentice will have an ally. We will continue to accept donations and will continue to search for a potential whistle blower and broadcast that our organization can serve as a safe harbor for them should they be the target of any type of legal retribution.
Thank you again for all of your support and for continuing to fight every day for what you believe in. Please pass along information about the Wayne Barrett Fund and encourage any journalist you know to pursue an application if they believe these funds could help support their work.
Thank you again,
Aaron
To Karyn and Catherine's points - I would suggest that if the money is not used for a lawsuit it goes to an organization that helps victims of sexual violence - it's only fair.
Let's raise another $5M for his coke dealer to come out.
This is the sneakiest dirtiest idea I have heard of to ruin a man. I would not give one cent in an effort to uncover the chinks in someones Armour. His opposition does not need for a whistle-blower the flaws are all there to see in 30 years of bad service to the country and failed policies. He never said he was a saint. Grow up.
Trump supporters objecting to this gofundme page are a hoot. They're all for digging up anything possible to harm Clinton's campaign but, oh, no! -- let's not harm dear old Donald, Champion of the People! People spend their money on more frivolous things than this every single day. Donate or don't but mind your own spending habits and stay out of other people's spending decisions. You know that there is so much more damaging information out there about Donald Trump, but the people who support him at this point certainly don't care about the facts of who he is. They will hold onto their Savior until he takes them all to hell. View a video made by Paul Friel the son of a man whose small business was screwed royally by Donald Trump--through non-payment and then blackballing him from getting any other jobs, for no other reason than greed and vengeance--real mafia-like tactics. THAT is the real Trump. Just one of hundreds of similar stories of Donald Trump putting his desire for fortune over ethics and human decency. Trump is for Trump alone. No one else. Check out The Trump Project at trumpproject dot org.
Very interesting choice of picture this is a picture of Louise Brandeis, for anyone who doesn't know, a former associate justice on the Supreme Court. He was considered the people's lawyer because of his devotion to public causes (and took many cases on for free), but more interestingly, was thought of as dangerous not for any attributable skills, but because he was incorruptible. I'll be happy to donate. To address another concern regarding donations: donating money to a cause you truly believe in its a donation well spent. And if you believe this donation will help in revealing critical information that could potentially affect over 7 billion people for 4 years, donating helps, but SHARING this post helps too.
Who is Aaron Holman, and what's stopping him from just pocketing any cash raised by this? You might mean well, but you're just some faceless person on the Internet as far as I know.
This is so wrong on many levels. I can not believe people are willing to do anything to destroy someone's life just to win. Why not get off your duff and work at earning a win fairly instead of taking the cowards way and being a sore loser.
The salty trump supporters in the comments are delicious. Gofundme has a great anti fraud protection policy. Keep trying, kids.
Not frivolous or personal vendetta as some comments suggest, but an attempt to uncover the truth about someone who presents himself as qualified to serve as leader of the free world. If he's hasn't engaged in any insanely unacceptable rants, then he's got nothing to worry about but, if he has, isn't that important to know before he does irreversible damage with his bizarre and unpredictable behavior on the world stage?
It doesn't even matter at this point....HA HA HA.....Go President Hillary and if the tapes surface..I'll add the addendum of another HA HA HA. Donald you disgusting pig....PLUS I hope she gets a democratic Senate so the "Equal Pay for Equal Work" bill will finally be passed after a FRICKEN DECADE of male republicans rejecting it......Madam President...I am at your service
Why doesn't Hillary just pay it?...5 mil is a drop in the bucket to her....Dont fall for this scam
I forwarded this to the Facebook of Mark Cuban. He hates Trump as much as anyone of us do. This anti Christ in human form must go!
I just reported this campaign. A.) It's a fraud. B.) It's wrong on so many levels. There are people who are dying, people who are starving, people who are truly in need. Shame on anyone who contributes to this campaign. It makes me sick to think that this is what we've come to as a society. True idiocracy.
You sad people they're real people out there that need this money and you choose spend it on this
To the pious folks who believe my $5 donation here could have cured poverty instead: the whole point of this isn't so much to help someone pay a fee, it's to show that members of the public are willing to share the cost of shining a spotlight on yet another shadowy aspect of Trump's character. If that means taking a chance that I'm just throwing a few dollars in the street, so be it. Still worth it! Maybe he'll be exonerated. Who knows? Personally, I'd rather know than not know. Wouldn't you?
Well it looks like you found at least 56 suckers so far. I think its BS fake contributions from scammers accounts but hey, Hillary supporters are actually this stupid so....
These go fund me pages are getting completely out of hand. The purpose of them, if they are allowed at all, should be for only people that desperately need the money. (Illness or burial). Use your own money Hillary if you want to be underhanded, which we all know you already are, if you want to get a point across. You and your friends are a bunch of sleeze balls.
I think you should change where the money goes to if no one comes forward. I don't have anything against the Center for Investigative Reporting, but am not necessarily interested in contributing to them. I'd rather the money go to a charity or organization aimed to uplift/support one or more of the many groups that Trump has offended.
Only the Trump trolls would bad mouth this campaign. Let's prevent this dictator, bully, scowling, sniffling, womanizing, unhinged, lying man from feeding his inner beast. I hope they leak the tape(s) showing his racist, womanizing self for all the world to see. I do hope all funds are dispersed to whistleblower(s) including legal rep as needed.
Great support, keep it coming! We are hoping this will help someone eventually come forward and blow the whistle before the election!
