Sued for Notifying Police of Danger

Donation protected
In California, like most states, certified Fugitive Recovery Agents are required by law to notify a local police department of their intended operations and often work closely with the police to locate and apprehend dangerous fugitives.

In this case, on November 4, 2015, the San Diego police in Pacific Beach were provided with this Wanted Poster which accurately passed on information that one of the two fugitives being sought should be considered armed and dangerous.

On November 5, 2015 the fugitive was shot and killed by San Diego police officers.  The video of that event, released by th San Diego District Attorney's Office, is here:

Everyone involved has now been sued in a federal court.  My involvement, and reason for being sued, was because I (and my company) created and distributed the Wanted Poster to police in Pacific Beach after we received information that our fugitives had gone there.

Yes, I am being sued for warning the police of a dangerous fugitive and must now incur legal fees to defend myself and my company from this frivolous lawsuit.

The lawsuit face page can be seen here:

Unfortunately, insurance coverage is not available to protect either the business, Legal Service Bureau Inc. dba Global Fugitive Recovery, or myself, Dan Escamilla, ("Campaigning Parties") from the high costs and attorney's fees which may be required to defend this action and fight these attorneys. At least $10,000 is projected to be required.

Funds will be used on behalf of the Campaigning Parties to fight the lawsuit and these attorneys who, by their lawsuit, are sending a message to the public that “citizens should not warn police officers of potential danger" for fear of getting sued.

If this lawsuit is dismissed as to the Campaigning Parties prior to incurring the projected fees and costs, the remaining funds will be used to improve the interaction between Fugitive Recovery Agents and police officers by seminars, informational handouts and, of course, on the preparation and dissemination of future Wanted Posters which are intended to keep our police officers safe and informed about potentially dangerous fugitives that may be in their area.

Dan Escamilla and his fugitive recovery associates take police officer saftey very seriously.  He believes that he did the right thing when he advised the San Diego police of the information which potentially impacted officer safety.

Please help him and Global Fugitive Recovery defend the lawsuit so that he can continue with efforts to work with our local police officers and provide them with information to keep them safe from harm.

Thank you.
