Study Shakespeare in Oxford
Donation protected
Since the early 2000s, I have loved the poetry and themes of Shakespeare's writing. I read and watched as much as I could. (Which wasn't a lot since I lived in a relatively theatre-less town.)
I first performed Shakespeare two years ago when I was cast in Macbeth is the New Black at Maryville College as a witch and a murderer. I followed it up quickly thereafter by performing in Taming of the Shrew as Tranio and Macbeth as Lady Macduff, Menteith, and Hecate. A year later, I played Guildenstern in Hamlet. This year I'll be portraying Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Since my first performance of Shakespeare, I have been obsessed with his work. I have not stopped reading, studying, learning monologues, and doing scenes with friends. But with relatively few opportunities to learn in Knoxville, Tennessee, I decided to try to study the Bard in other parts of the world.
I auditioned for British American Drama Academy (BADA). It's a mix of Yale and Oxford acting and theatre faculty and the training takes place over a month in Oxford, UK.
I have been accepted.
So now I have to somehow find a LOT of money if I'm going to make my dream a reality. The program offered me $750 to help me out, but I still need to raise about $8000.
In addition to this campaign, I'm willing to jump rope at birthday parties, draw you a picture, make you a necklace, mend your bluejeans, teach you various languages, and proofread your documents.
I really want this, friends. I want to truly learn Shakespeare so I can share the knowledge and help others understand.
This is a step on which I must fall down.
Please help my dreams come true. It would mean the world to me.
