Hello, everyone!
This summer, I have a wonderful opportunity to study abroad in Tianjin, China! I am a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the school I will be studying at is Nankai University(one of the top ten universities in China). Tianjin is approximately 30 minutes East of Beijing by bullet train, and I will be spending 12 weeks there gaining 12 credits of Chinese language to go towards my plans of double majoring in Chinese and computer science.
I have been learning Chinese since elementary school, and having the ability to study abroad is such an amazing opportunity to me, especially since I am adopted from Beijing and will be able to learn more about the culture that is extremely different from Western culture. This trip will include many cultural activities throughout my time in China, called caifeng activities. Teachers will go with me to nearby grocery stores and shopping malls, as well as the campuses of Nankai University and Tianjin University, and help me to practice speaking in real life situations. I will also be taking a calligraphy and Chinese painting course in addition to my 12 credits of Chinese language.
While this trip is costly, I know that the trip will be a once in a lifetime experience to really immerse myself in China and be in a constant learning environment out of my comfort zone. I am applying to several scholarships, and need a lot of financial aid for this trip. I am paying for the entire trip myself, and have at least $3000 saved so far. Getting airfare to China is expensive in itself, and the the cost for the entire program is a good deal considering that housing is included, but still it is very expensive. Any donations are welcome, and I am extremely grateful for them.
I am excited to see how God may use me in the future with my ability to speak Chinese, and am looking forward to this trip! I will have many blog posts up about it when I'm there to keep you all updated as well. Also, here is a youtube video that I made of my trip to China last summer that was 2 weeks long.
