Strike Group Strikes Again

I'm a Trekkie. There's not other way to say it. I'm a geek, a nerd, a Vulcan in my other life... and proud of it. I've watched Star Trek since it came out (yes, I'm that old!) and been a fan since day one. Of late (well, since 2009), I've become a huge fan of Star Trek Online (it's a video game) because it shows me that people in real life (the awesome players and developers) can be as genuine, caring and optimistic as we were taught in those old television episodes.
Having attended many an ST convention, and seeing the work of he fans in creating fundraisers, charities, and other activities that support the world at large, I knew how ST helped real people make a better world.
Two years ago, I decided that my STO fleet needed to go to the convention and tell everyone how much we loved the game - and why we think it helps bring out the best in people. And we did go! Fleet members donated, and those of us who could attend paid for the balance of everything out of our pockets.
Now that sounds pretty reasonable, since we were the ones who went - but when a part-time job is all you can find for work because you're helping take care of aging parent, or because you spend your afternoon and evenings teaching martial arts to kids whose parents can't always afford the classes (and thus you pay the balance of the rent out of your pocket), that trip isn't a lagniappe.
But it did what we hoped it would do - bring more people to the game, and more people to seeing that the future has hope!
We want to go back in 2019 - and we want to make a bigger impact by taking more of our members and having a bigger presence at the convention. But even 'cheaping' it out, it's expensive.
We're hoping to raise $15,000 to cover the direct costs of the convention and the equipment we need to do it they way we'd like - but we're not relying on the generosity of wonderful people like you. We've written the first of three STO tutorial books which we hope to get published, and started a livestream and youtube channel to provide free tutorials for gamers (hoping that if we get enough subscribers we can monetize the channel) in order to help raise funds.
If you can contribute, thank you. If not, we'd be appreciative if you'd check out out youtube channel - and if it's to your taste, subscribe! You can find us at youtube - The Darkmom Consortium.
Either way, we'll see you 'round the galaxy!
