In 1975, I was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to immigrant parents fortunate that America welcomed them to this country and allowed them to thrive and give back. This weekend, in that same city, hate-filled white supremacists, opposing people like me, have made themselves heard and have inspired a new followers to join them.
The recent "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, is said to be the largest gathering of white nationalists in years, drawing out a variety of hate groups.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is a non-profit organization that monitoring the activities of domestic hate groups and other extremists. The SPLC publishes investigative reports, shares key intelligence with law enforcement, and offers expert analysis to the media and public about hate groups. They expose organized hate, racism, and bigotry.
The SPLC's official count of hate groups has risen in the past two years, from 784 to 917, as these groups have become emboldened to speak out and protest publicly, after years of hiding underground and online. The image in my campaign shows where these 917 groups are located.
Join me in supporting the SPLC to monitor, report, and ultimately #StopHate. Your donation will go to the SPLC and I'll match the first $500 in donations to this campaign.
