PAVING GREAT FUTURES IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE ORGANIZATION!!

WHO IS PAVING GREAT FUTURES?

Paving Great Futures is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to empowering at-risk communities throughout San Diego County’s five districts.

Why  Do We Exist?

The communities subsisting in San Diego's impoverished neighborhoods currently suffer from a chronic lack of growth and opportunity. Unproductive and self-destructive activities — including gang violence, drug and alcohol use and distribution, and human sex trafficking — have become dangerously commonplace. Vulnerable young people frequently find themselves trapped in self-perpetuating cycles of illegal behavior, and the punitive and authoritarian measures of the criminal justice system only exacerbate these problems.

PGF's goal is to rehabilitate these marginalized and at-risk communities by fostering their economic, social, and political development, especially the development of the recently incarcerated, who often struggle disproportionately to integrate into society. PGF does this by focusing on the six core competencies of entrepreneurship, job readiness, financial literacy, responsible life skills, community service, and civic engagement. By addressing all of these areas, PGF's comprehensive work experience programs transform misguided young people into productive and empowered community leaders capable of guiding relevant and lasting changes.

Our Vision & Mission

Our vision is to contribute to a world where no matter your ethnicity or background you can have access to financial, career, and business opportunities.

Our Mission is to empower individuals with the necessary tools to pave a great future by providing alternatives for economic advancement through entrepreneurship, business development, and job training with the intent to create opportunity and financial sustainability. We stimulate social change and responsibility through community involvement and service.

Mission Statement
To provide marginalized and at risk individuals with the skills to pursue their career goals and lead healthy and productive lives.

What is our History and Purpose?

Paving Great Futures (PGF) was founded in 2012 by Barry Harris Jr, Armand King, and Jay Bowser, three San Diego natives who grew up in impoverished and gang-afflicted areas of the city. As adults with developed professional careers, they came together with a shared desire to help members of San Diego's underserved and at-risk populations become socially stable and self-sufficient.

PGF's purpose is to improve the health, safety, and stability of both communities and individuals by helping to reintegrate at-risk populations of young people (age 13-30), including substance abusers, victims of human sex trafficking, current and former gang members, and the formerly incarcerated.

To this end, PGF leadership has identified six core competencies that are important to personal development: entrepreneurship, job readiness, financial literacy, responsible life skills, community service, and civic engagement. By focusing on these six areas, and providing wraparound services like one-on-one mentoring, specific job training, social rehabilitation, and housing assistance, PGF programs helps break the self-perpetuating cycle of poverty, crime, and violence afflicting San Diego's minority communities.

Through opportunity and education, PGF is changing lives and the greater community by fostering stability, reducing recidivism rates, reducing poverty-related government costs, and providing a reliable answer to California’s prison overpopulation crisis.

How Can You Help?

Your financial contribution will help support PGF's programs. Paving Great Futures programs seek to empower underrepresented San Diego communities to be skillful, trained, knowledgeable, and prepared workers, thereby diverting the pipeline to prison. We resolve to do this by providing economic opportunity through hands-on training, business and personal financial literacy, personal and social skills, and mentorship from credible messengers. Our work inspires individuals to grow and learn, and provides them with the confidence to take positive action and make beneficial decisions in their daily lives. Ultimately, we create more responsible citizens in the community who in turn have a stronger desire to create and maintain long-term financial opportunities.
