American Samoa U16 M&W Beach Handball Teams 2024

Imagine learning a new sport, one you have never even heard of and then winning a continental gold followed by earning a spot in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.  That's exactly what the American Samoa U17 Women's Beach Handball Team has done.

In 2017 at the Oceania U17 Womans Beach Handball Championships at Cook Islands the became champions and in Mauritius at the 2017 Youth Olympic Qualifiers they beat Australia twice to earn the Youth Olympic birth.
To prepare them for the YOG we entered the girls in the 2018 Sr. Woman's Oceania Championships in Adelaide, Australia where the became Silver Medalists. With the help of supporters we took the team to the USA to train with Team USA and compete at the SoCal Cup in LA.  The team learned valuable lessons that they used in Boston at their local tournament winning every game.  At the 2018 YOG we became the1st team from American Samoa to ever win an Olympic game winning two, beating Africa's rep Mauritius, twice.
Rather than rest we reorganized the team through tryouts and competed in the 2019 Oceania Women's Championships having the youngest team at the competition.  They girls had convincing wins over Cook Islands, New Zealand and Kiribati before loosing a close contest against Australia's Women.   They also won a Silver in the 2019 Australian Open against 16 teams.
Our goal is simple, to win an Olympic Gold.
The plan is simple, continue to build our youth and Junior programs while we continue to train and gain experience for our Sr. Women.
In this picture are members of our Sr. Junior and Youth programs.

We have limited resourses to train and or compete in ASA but we work very hard fundraising and marketing ourselves.  Our coaches donate fruit grown on their land to sell and raise funds to keep our programs going.  We have yard sales, car washes and we even bake cupcakes and cookies to sell.

They are a wonderful group of young ladies who love the sport, honor their families and respect their culture.  Many come from less than fortunate families yet most are rich in character. They are as pleasant off the court as they are tenacious on it. Their grades in school are reflected by their intelligence on the court and their skills are often natural.

Our staff is dedicated to helping our girls, most who would otherwise have limited opportunities.  Women in ASA face hardships and support for their endeavors are less adequate.  Trying to sustain an Olympic program has been tough, but we have so far been successful with the help of the public, you, a few sponsors and our hard fundraising events.

Handball provides empowering opportunities for our girls. From staying off the streets to coaching, competing, refereeing and college opportunities.
Lets keep the ball rolling.

We expect beach handball to become an Olympic Sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics and our goal is to be competitive there and win a gold at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

We really need help building a proper beach handball court. This is my main goal right now. The partial court that we were using in a problem for us. On two occations girls walking down to the Maliu Mai were harrassed, by men and showed up shaken and scared. The owners of the Maliu Mai won't let my girls use the restroom. That's a big issue. Everyone thinks because we are an island that we have sand beaches, we do not. We are known as the rock!! And not because of the actor. I've been...

We are always  recruiting youth, Junior and maintaining our experienced seniors.  We need your help.  Our 2020 schedule looks like this
U12 - what ever tournament we can afford
U15 - 2022 Youth Olympic Qualifier/Oceania Championships
U19 - What ever we can afford in Europe
Sr. - SoCal Cup
