Grady's St. Jude's Fundraiser

Grady is an amazing, determined 7 year old child who has a strong focus on earning and saving money and giving gifts – wanting always to buy something special for those around. He is tenacious in his quests and does not stop until he has reached is goal. In January 2015 he decided independently that he wanted to save money for charity. It wasn’t until he saw a commercial on television for St. Jude Children’s Hospital that he knew what that charity would be. He set a goal of $100. Grady solicited friends and family, made a collection box , used his Easter Bunny money and most significantly worked in his good friend Richard’s (a retired school teacher) garden planting, weeding and picking up leaves. Richard would present Grady with gold dollar coins for his hard work which Grady happily placed into his charity box.
In May, Grady reached his $100 goal! He was so excited to present St. Jude’s Children Hospital with his donation and would not hear of mailing it; it had to be hand delivered!! We visited St. Jude’s regional office in Newton, MA. Grady was greeted by the Regional Director where he presented them with $204; $100 he raised, $100 match from mom and dad and two of his prized $2 bills (tooth fairy money) he added last minute. St. Jude’s presented him with many gifts including a thank you plaque with his name & art work made by a child at St. Jude’s. It was a special day!
While at St. Jude’s, Grady told the Regional Director that we would be presenting them with a $5000 bill one day. Since May he has been very focused on this new goal and has not stopped working towards it. To date he has raise an additional $800.
We are amazed by our son’s giving heart and tenacity; having never encountered another 7 year old child who has focused so intently and selflessly on giving.
We would very much like to help him achieve this goal and have told him that when he does we will present his donation in person at St. Jude’s in Memphis.
PLEASE consider helping Grady but most importantly, consider help the children of St. Jude's beat cancer!
