Help us build a more inclusive creators' platform

When Naomi Wu was banned from Patreon I knew I had to do something. Like Wu, I’m a techie. I love building things, coding and computers. Seeing Wu lose her income seemed like one more example of the endless struggles we face as women in tech.

That’s why I built Sther (pronounced "esther"). It’s a benefit corporation that is a more inclusive Patreon alternative that supports and promotes LGBTQIA+ and others from marginalized groups as well as their allies. Yes, that means white (straight) guys are welcome, too. :)

Content creators face discrimination and abuse online on a daily basis. It’s time that we build a platform that focuses on making a better and more inclusive Internet.

The company is incorporated as a benefit corporation, the framework for the platform is done and we already have users testing the site, including Naomi Wu.

We need funding to keep the platform alive. We have hosting fees, merchant fees, and developer fees to contend with. Let’s face it, we don’t have venture capital so it’s hard for Sther to compete on just pennies and wishful thinking.

I hope you’ll help make Sther a real success. A better world is possible.

Thanks for your support,
Margot.

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation!

Thanks to this gofundme campaign, I've been able to pay a few volunteer coders. This means a lot because I don't believe that anyone should work for free.

We'd like to keep pushing toward our goal because we need capital in order to create an offshore version of sther that will make it possible for us to offer our services to the most marginalized group of them all: sex workers.

Thanks for your help!!

Thank you everyone for your donations, we're just $50 short of $3,500! I wanted to give you an update on how we plan to spend this money.

Firstly, we're setting aside 30% to make sure that we cover our taxes because it's likely that as this is money donated toward starting a business, we'll have to pay taxes on it.

Secondly, we're pricing payment gateway fees and trying to get the best value but we also want a company that understands our business model so that we don't run into trouble down the line. So that may or may not mean higher fees, we'll find out. Either way, this money is prioritized toward covering monthly fees for payment processing.

Thirdly, hosting fees are likely to be a few hundred a year so this money will go toward that, too.

Fourthly, Payroll management will also be an issue, so some of this money will cover that. We'd like to offer direct deposit.

Lastly, we'd like to hire a few people on a project basis to assist with coding so that there isn't only one person working on code. I have a lot of ideas to improve on the Patreon model, but it takes coding hours to get them done.

The more money we raise, the more we can do. Thank you so much for helping Sther get off the ground. Your funds are helping us build a more inclusive Internet.

Happy New Year!
