SUMC Pipe Organ Fund

Dear Friends of Stevenson,

For over one hundred years, congregants and visitors to Stevenson United Methodist Church have enjoyed Christian hymns played on its Möller Pipe Organ. This marvelous instrument has undergone two rebuilds since originally purchased in 1912 (the year construction on the church building itself was begun): in 1947 and again in 1980. Unfortunately, thirty-five years of weekly use have taken its toll on the organ, and it has been estimated that its useful life will not extend beyond the next three years. Our pipe organ has been a well-known attraction for many years, but now a new sanctuary organ is clearly needed.

If you are among the many people who have enjoyed Stevenson’s Möller Pipe Organ in the past, perhaps you would consider making a donation toward the purchase of the new instrument.

Every penny of every donation will go directly to the pipe organ fund

This organ is very speacial to our church. It is truly a workhorse and serves diligently week in and week out accompanying the handbell choir, chancel choir and congregational singing on Sunday mornings as well as various concerts throughout the year. Unfortunately, the console and archaic "switching system" is in a steady state of decline.

What does this mean? Lots of dead notes, stops that do not function and ranks of pipes that have fallen silent.

How can this be fixed? The funds raised will go directly  to replace the console - often called the control center- of the organ. This is where the organist sits and plays the organ.

What will be the end result? Through diligent research, it was agreed that our church with both a contemporary and traditional blended service, would be best served by a "Hybrid" instrument. A hybrid organ is  a digital organ console seamlessly interfaced with our existing 9 ranks of Moller pipes. The result is an infinitely versatile instrument with all of the modern conveniences. The sound quality of these digital instruments is so advanced, the diference between a digital note and one of our organ pipes will be indistinguishable. Our aim and final end, above all, is to provide an instrument that will inspire,  support our congregational singing, and raise our voices high in praising God in worship through song.

Please prayerfully consider a gift of any amount in support of this vital part of worship.

Psalm 150:4
Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
