Stef Grassley Burned In Explosion
On October 2, 2018 our beloved friend, mother, wife, daughter, sister, and inspiration was involved in an accident in Tuscany, Italy, where she lives and runs a business with her husband Rasmus and their two beautiful children.
Stefanie is currently in a burn facility in Pisa, Italy- nearly two hours away from her home and family. She had 3rd degree burns on her lower arms and hands, 2nd degree burns on her face and ears, and 1st degree burns on her face. She was in a medically-induced coma for a week, during which time she had surgery to apply skin grafts to the injuries on her hands.
She faces a very long and painful road to recovery as the burns heal and she works to regain use of her hands.
Stefanie, her husband Rasmus, and their two children – Viya (3) and Leon (1) – moved to Tuscany just over a year ago to follow their dream of creating a destination for creative, like-minded individuals. They currently own and operate Ristonchi Castle , where guests from all over the world come to stay and contribute to the Creator’s Castle community they have established.
Stefanie is truly the heartbeat of the castle and a ray of light to those lucky enough to know her. She is fiercely strong and resilient and has put so much effort, energy and love into pursuing her family’s dream.
Accidents and the resulting life-threatening injuries are shocking and entirely unexpected for all involved. Stefanie and Rasmus are now facing the financial reality of how to continue the dream they’ve work so hard to build, while Stefanie has the time and space needed to recover, rehabilitate and be with her children.
Any support you’re able to provide would go to help with the following:
- Medical bills for months and years of care to follow
- Costs associated with major losses the castle is facing without Stefanie able to work
- As well as numerous other unforeseen expenses that will undoubtedly arise.
We also ask that you send positive, healing thoughts Stefanie’s way.
Thank you so much for your support.
From Stefanie's Mom, Sue:
"My sweet daughter Stefanie, is fighting the fight of her life right now. Some of you out there might follow her on Instagram and see how how she works and gives 110% or more into her dream of having a castle to run and a fun place for her family to grow up.
Today Stefanie stood up for the first time in two weeks. IT WAS SO HARD! But, she knows she is one step closer to being well enough to be back with her sweet little ones. When she does therapy for her fingers that are all wrapped up in gauze, she imagines she is home tickling Viya and Leon's cute little tummy's, which is very painful. Her heart is breaking because she has been away form her kids for two weeks now.
Thanks to everyone out there that is praying for her. Please keep her in your prayers."
Tom (stefanie's father) requested you'd send some memories or funny stories you shared with Stefanie that will help brighten her day.
"Nurses are fantastic.
We brought pics of her kids and taped them to the window so Stef can see them as they wash walls every day.
Biggest bummer: Only 1 of us can go in at a time now. Other one looks thru glass window with a phone to hear what is going on in room and sits on a metal bench. In case you’re wondering, it’s great on my two hip replacements.
I read her the cards everyone sent and she laughed and cried and so did I. Now we need stories of shared experiences u had with stef. Funny, sad, send what ya got to Sue’s FB page.. Whatever we can read that will keep her thinking. trying to keep that pain med from fogging her brain.
She has a hard time knowing what was real or not because of weird dreams.
Taped up pics of her kids, brothers and their families so she won't feel so lonely. Showed doc and nurses and missionaries a pie of stef before accident so they could see what she looked like.
Stef wanted grapes, pony tail holder and anything cold. It’s pretty warm in her room espec when we have to wear all the gear-face mask, head covering, full gown, shoe covers,We’ll watch her doze off and some staff will start yelling in the hall. She says all Italian conversation sounds like yelling.
Sue rubbed her head and non-burned leg and feet parts with lotion and stef really enjoyed it.
Stef can’t use any touch screen device so the staff cut off two fingers from latex glove so she can activate phone. Has lots of gauze on hands. We hoped Stet would sleep well tonight with all the activity but not sure she did.
Sue downloaded a movie on stef’s phone she was in heaven. Italian tv is useless
New day. Wednesday
Nurses said she did much better with her physical therapy today. She pretended to tickle her kids and it helped her to move her hands and fingers as much as possible
Singing summer lovin and the sign thru the speaker outside her room.
Stef would go in and out of sleep. When she slept we would just be quiet until she awoke
Tom sang Thriller and Stef would do the dance by moving her two hands in unison. Good therapy, hee hee."
