STEEN'S TEAM: Steen Miles' Heroes

We're Steen's Team of Heroes, a growing group of friends who love and admire Ollisteen (Davis) Miles. We've come together to join her fight against Stage 3A lung cancer.   

At 70 and recently diagnosed, Steen needs lifesaving medical treatments that are out of reach financially.  Critical tests and treatment options --- radiation, chemo, immunotherapy, and other desperately needed treatments and medications --- that are massively expensive and often not covered by Medicare nor afforded by Steen's sole income source, Social Security.

With no pension or Medicare gap insurance, our friend is foundering under a sea of medical expenses. In fact, before each critical treatment can begin, her doctors require upfront co-payments --- money she simply does not have.

Together, we want to solve Steen's financial crisis.  Calling ourselves Steen's Team, we're a coalition of  Steen Miles' friends worldwide, joining together to defray the massive cost of robust cancer care ... care that Steen gravely needs.  

So, who are we?  The short answer is that we were Indiana school kids when our lives came together with Ollisteen's to form an unbreakable bond of lifelong friendship. We fell in love with Steen's incredibly warm and welcoming smile, her keen intellect, fierce loyalty, deep spirituality, and  her amazing and loving heart.  

So, how about you? When did Steen touch your life?  Did you, too, know Steen in high school or college ... or during her long career in broadcast journalism at WNDU-TV in South Bend, WMAQ radio in Chicago or through Atlanta's WXIA-TV - 11Alive, and Faith in the City? Perhaps, you connected at MARTA ... or during her term as Georgia State Senator.  You may have served in professional organizations like the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS),  The Atlanta Association of Black Journalists, the Atlanta Regional Leadership Institute or any of the dozens of prestigious groups that have awarded Steen their highest honors. Maybe you served together in Jack and Jill or as board members and volunteers. Or perhaps, you've shared prayer and fellowship at Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Decator where she serves as an Associate Minister. 

This is the thing ... while Steen's Team members may not know each other, we all sure know Steen ... and we know that she's spent her entire life helping others.  Now it's our turn to help her!

Our goal is to raise $28,500 so that Steen can rid herself of the deadly cancer eating away her lungs and lymph nodes.  She needs the kind of peace of mind that comes with knowing that good, sound medical treatment is affordable.  To get well, Steen needs to be free of financial worry so she can focus on the fight of her life.
