St. Basil Church Building Fund

$1,900 of $25,000 goal

In 2014, St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church had no choice but to leave where we had been renting for over 15 years, because our landlord refused to fix the building that was falling down around us. We were not able to find another place to rent and realized that we had to purchase a facility. With only a minimal amount in our building fund, we had to secure a loan. No churches were available that met the needs of this growing parish, so we had to think outside the box.

We were blessed to acquire a building that used to be a daycare center.  It is located at 1520 Todd’s Lane, in Hampton, Virginia.  It is a 7000 sq ft butler style building (see photo A). Once purchased, we realized that we had our work cut out for us in converting it into an Orthodox church.  A renovation of this magnitude normally costs upwards of $500,000, if done by a construction company; however the budget was limited to $50,000 which is what we had left in our building fund, after paying the down payment for the building. Thankfully, we had a parishioner with the knowledge and experience, who offered to design and head up the construction of St. Basil’s.  We had come close to depleting the balance, but our own parishioners donated roughly $24,000 through the course of the two years. With the relentless drive and determination of our parish and its volunteers, this labor of love had begun to take shape!

So, what began as a dream of owning our own Church building in 2014, is almost  to completion.  We now ask for any help to realize this dream! We need to raise funds to help us finish the work; the Iconostasis, the Ladies' Bathroom, the Narthex, and the Kitchen.

We ask you to keep St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church and it’s parishioners in your thoughts and prayers, and if you are able to help us in any way financially, we would be blessed! Thank you to all who have already donated! God bless!!

We've come a long way thanks to all your support! We now have paint on the walls and ceiling....we even have the beginnings of Christ the Pantocrator, thanks to our resident Iconographer, Jeff Edens. We're still quite a ways away from being completely finished. The floor will be installed in the Altar, soon. It is our hope to have everything ready by November, when Bishop Thomas plans to consecrate the church. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Please share!
