Family, Friends and Neighbors-
For those of you that haven’t heard, Our sweet, spunky, sassy 10 year old, Sofia Sanchez, an incoming 5th grader at Kingsley School in Downers Grove, has just been diagnosed with the devastating news of having cardio myopathy. Cardio Myopathy is an incurable disease that causes heart failure. Sofia is currently in critical condition at Lurie Children’s hospital in Chicago undergoing invasive procedures to determine just how quickly she will need a heart transplant. Unfortunately in the meantime, her liver is beginning to fail her.
As any parents would be, Dave and Natalie are fearful to leave Sofia’s side right now. This is obviously going to result in a decrease of income, which is stressful enough without the burden of having a critically sick child. With this diagnosis, Sofia’s medical bills will continue for many years.
Let’s all do our best to reach out to Natalie, Dave, Anthony, Jonathon and especially Sofia and show our support from a great community that is here to lift each other up and help however we can. No one wants to experience the uncertainty the Sanchez family is dealing with right now. If you are able, please help and support Stay Strong Sofia!
Please keep following for updates as we have them. Thank you.

Sofia update 9/14/18
From Natalie-
Sofia had a catheterization on Tuesday. It showed 100% pressure/squeeze of the heart, but with a little rejection. We’re hoping that the steroids will clear up the rejection. Sofia was discharged from the hospital Wednesday evening and we are now at the Ronald McDonald house for the next 4-6 weeks. Sofia is feeling great and really enjoying the fresh air. Thank you all for your continued support.❤️

Update on Sofia...
First we would like to thank God! Also, we want to thank and bless the donor and his/her family.
Yesterday started off slow. Sofia was intubated and paralyzed. The plan was to take the paralytic off sometime during the day and the breathing tube out the following day. As The paralytic started to wear off, Sofia quickly started communicating with us that she wanted the breathing tube out. She started breathing over the tube so the doctors turned down the oxygen and she was able to breathe on her own. Sofia was extubated 24 hours after her heart transplant! She was able to drink and eat a little. She said that this surgery is nothing compared to the last, when they placed the HVAD. Doctors are amazed at how quickly she is starting to recover. With the HVAD Sofia could not hear her heartbeat, but only a motor running. The best part of all was when she was able to listen to her heart beat again. It was very emotional. And we are so grateful. Although Sofia is doing well, she is extremely exhausted. We do expect her to make a full and quick recovery. We are hopeful that Sofia will be home by November. Thank you all for your prayers and support. ❤️

Update on Sofia 8/26/18
Sofia is getting a heart! The Sanchez’s prayers are being answered. Surgery is scheduled for early tomorrow morning. Please say your prayers for Sofia and her doctors that everything goes smoothly. Her recovery will last a couple of weeks before she will spend another 6-8 weeks at the Ronald Mcdonald house. Natalie’s hope is to have her home by thanksgiving!
Please also say a prayer for the family who has unselfishly donated a heart for Sofia.
