UPDATE 6 (4/26/17): Hello Everyone! We are just a few days away from the end of this campaign on May 1st. I want to take this time to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the social media shares and the donations to make this possible for the displaced residents and State Street Saloon employees.

I am so pleased to let you all know that attorney Thomas Watson of Drummond Woodsum Attorneys at Law will be acting as the beneficiary! Mr. Watson completed his undergrad at UNH and also graduated from the UNH School of Law. He is an active member of the community and has held positions with several local groups including the Portsmouth Historical Society, Strawbery Banke Museum, and the Portsmouth Planning Board among others. Mr. Watson was even named the Portsmouth Citizen of the Year in 1995. He is currently the president of the Portsmouth Athenaeum and is a trustee for Trustees of the Trust Funds for Portsmouth, New Hampshire. These are just some of his current and past involvements. Mr. Watson is truly an outstanding local citizen and I am looking forward to working with him to make sure residents and employees receive their checks for the donation money!

***********************************************************

Any money raised will be distributed to those displaced by the fire and also will help employees of "Statey".  Donations will be spread between the two identified groups, and then distributed equally to the intended recipients of each of the groups as a one-time payment.

If an intended donation recipient declines to accept, the money will be donated to the Portsmouth Fire Department.

Update: If you are a resident who was displaced by this terrible fire, please contact your property main office to get my contact information. By law they cannot distribute your information, but they can distribute mine. Please contact me when you have time! The community is here to help.

Per the requirement of GoFundMe, I have to disclose some info about myself. I went to UNH, I rent in Portsmouth, I have been a customer at State Street Saloon, I am sure most of us have at some point. I created this page because it's the right thing to do.

We did it! The generosity of everyone who has donated so far is inspiring, from local businesses to various community groups to residents. While I was out walking around today, I couldn't help but smile and think that this might just be the best small city in America. Maybe I'm a little biased :)

FYI, I have met with management of Statey and have been in contact with many of the residents. There are still a few residents that I have not heard from. Please reach out to me, my contact information is available through the property management and the Red Cross. More important updates coming next week regarding the beneficiary process. Stay tuned and have a beautiful Easter for those of you that celebrate.

Hey Everyone! Wow! Thanks for taking the time to donate, you're all awesome! Just want to update everyone who has donated or is considering donating, I do not have access to the funds. The funds are on hold by the great team at GoFundMe as the donations continue to come in. I am working with the GoFundMe Community Manager that is assigned to this campaign in order to help me with the beneficiary process. I am awaiting the replies of several people in the community who are directly connected to those affected to help me identify an appropriate beneficiary. I can imagine they are extremely preoccupied, so I have not yet heard back. Here's how it will work in a nut shell: At the end of the campaign, a one-time withdrawal will be sent to the beneficiary. The beneficiary then distributes the funds as I have described in the description. GoFundMe allows one beneficiary to be added to the campaign, so I will be very selective about choosing that person. The campaign will close on May 1st so that the donation money can be dispersed by GoFundMe within a reasonable time frame.

Kaitlin - Appreciate you putting this together, but this is the internet and caution is warranted. Would you mind sharing a bit about yourself and relation to the impacted workers and residents? I want to give, but it's important for me to know who and where my money is going to.

I know you can't give out personal information, but approximately how many people is this going to at this point. You have to have a number right. I am all for giving but since you don't own the resteraunt and you haven't detailed how many people are receiving the money you are asking for, it just seems a bit sketchy. A few more details would be great.

So pleased Kaitlin, that you were able to bring attorney Thomas Watson in on this. Hopefully his participation will relieve any concerns people have had about this being a legitimate fundraiser. Bless you and everyone else that have helped everyone affected by the fire.
