STARS Goes To DC July 28 - 30

Greetings!!
We are the STARS camp of Asheville, NC, and the teen camp of the Christine Avery Learning Center. STARS stands for S.etting T.eens A.round R.oads to S.uccess! We have had an eventful summer thus far with our location being housed primarily on the UNCA campus. Here we have enjoyed classes on origami, microagressions, computer science, health and wellness, physics, mentoring, responsible social media behaviors, racial identity and development, and much more. With an academically packed schedule, we also find time to play. One of our exciting field trips planned is traveling to Washington D.C. It is here that we will tour Howard University, tour the National Mall, which includes the MLK Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Vietnam War Memorial. We also plan to visit the African American Civil War Memorial. Driving up to Baltimore to see the Great Blacks in Wax museum is on our list of to-do's. We are currently waiting for approval to tour the inside of the White House!!!
All of this excitement around a cultural, informative, educational, and enlightening experience comes with a cost. Our total cost includes the ticket price, food, hotel, and transportation for 30 students and 4 counselors.
We, at STARS, believe in presenting our youth with learning opportunities to mold them into productive members of society. It is our hope that your monetary assistance eases the cost we place on our parents to make this vision come to fruition.
