Stanford's Computer Science Institute Summer Camp

My name is Luis Guzman. I am a 17 year old high school junior from Fresno, Ca.; which is in Fresno County. I work closely with the Fresno Youth Commission, advising Fresno City Council and the mayor on policies and laws related to youth. I am a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient from Mexico. I love giving back to my community through many programs I am apart of and actively participate in. The programs include FNL (Friday Night Live), which helps reduce the amount of underage drinking around my school, Key Club which is a non-profit organization designed to connect the youth and their community through communal services, and YLI (Youth Leadership Institute) which is a nation wide program that gives voices to the youth to tackle issues within there community.
Being the oldest of five children in a low income family I have always tried to set a good example for my brothers and sisters to follow, but it hasn't been easy and has come with sacrifices. I have a passion for Computer Science and was lucky enough to get a spot over the summer to be taught and trained by professors at Stanford University; but the cost of housing, food, transportation as well as tuition is a lot when I come from a low social economic community. I have picked up two jobs to try to cover the costs, but still have not come up with the full amount needed to get me there. Tuition alone for the summer is $1500. With your help I believe I could make my dream a reality.

I want to thank you all for your support. I met my initial goal of 1,000 and a mentor suggested I up my goal by $700 for unexpected expenses I did not account for. I can ensure all funds will go to my program and I will provide updates through the summer. Any remaining funds I will donate to an org supporting undocumented youth.
