Summary

‣ Safi started experiencing blood in his stools in May 2019.

‣ He fell severely ill in June 2019 and decided to visit the hospital.

‣ He was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and placed on corticosteroid medication to lessen inflammation and stop bleeding.

‣ On August 18, after feeling faint and fatigued, he was taken to the hospital where the doctors saw abnormally low hemoglobin count. The doctors said "they have never seen a hemoglobin count so low" and that "it is a miracle that Safi is still standing."

‣ A fistula had developed. He was administered 7 units of blood in the forthcoming days.

‣ His fistula surgery was successful, but the blood loss continued and his hemoglobin hit his highest of 9.6 before dropping again to the mid 7s.

‣ As of today (Sept 3rd), Safi is in the ICU again due to difficulty breathing and an anxiety attack. His bleeding has still not stopped, he is still on medications.

Complete Story

Safi, moved to the states 5 years ago to further his education. After an immense amount of hard work, he finally graduated in December 2018. Upon graduating, he started job hunting. In May 2019, he started experiencing health issues (bloody stools). He brushed it off for a short period of time, hoping his condition would improve naturally. Finally, in June 2019, he decided he needed to get checked up. The doctors performed a colonoscopy and found a severely inflamed colon, the doctors could not fully complete the colonoscopy with the extent of inflammation as there was a risk of puncture. He was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis. He was given corticosteroids and 5-ASA medications to reduce inflammation. Over the course of the next month, his condition continued to deteriorate further despite being on medication. Eventually, Safi got to the point where he was dizzy after every bowel movement and had just lost energy to complete day-to-day tasks.

Safi was admitted to the ER on August 18 upon feeling extremely lethargic. His hemoglobin had fallen to 2.2 g/dl (normal levels are 13-17 g/dl). The doctors determined his body was in fight or flight mode and he was fighting for his life. Upon further examination, doctors found that he had a ruptured abscess that led to a fistula and would require surgery to repair the fistula. 5 units of blood were administered by this point, to revive his body and lower his heart rate, which had hit 156 bpm resting.

His surgery was on August 23rd, and 2 more units of blood were administered after. The surgery was successful, but he still has to recover from the inflammation and will be placed on other medication (possibly Humira) to assist his recovery.

He is still in the hospital and has not been able to land a job as he has been sick since he graduated. He needs all the financial assistance he could get, we request you to assist us in accumulating funding for his medical bills and further treatment.

We would be forever grateful for your donations.

Thank you,
