My husband and I found Squid, a black kitten on the side of the road near our house on Sunday 8/31.  His left hind leg was hanging limp when he tried to move, and we assumed he had been hit by a car.  We brought him to our vet (we have 2 adult cats that we rescued from our local SPCA in July 2007) and she agreed he was hit, let us know he was an approximately 4-month-old little guy, and took x-rays, gave him his rabies and distemper shots, etc.  

Squid unfortunately has a broken femur (affecting his growth plate), two pelvic fractures, a broken right hip joint, and right now bloody urine that us being looked into.  We have already spent over $400 at our own vet and are already another $400 in at Cornell veterinary hospital this morning for a catheter, fluids, and more pain meds.

An operation to attempt to pin Squid's femur, fix his right hip, and stabilize his pelvic fractures is estimated to cost us anywhere from 4-6 thousand dollars, which we cannot afford.  We only have a 3-day window to see if we can have Squid operated on.  For now he is coming home with us on strict cage rest, and we will need to monitor his urine and bowel movements because of possible nerve damage.
