It All Starts With A Dream
Ty has been dreaming about animals getting the help they need despite their owner's or shelter's financial capabilities since they were a child. While we can all accept our limitations, our dream at Mantra Pet is to make that a reality in the realm of training and behavioral counceling.
We dream of free teaching time donated to shelters so that the public can afford to educate themselves and their pets, to keep them in their homes.
We dream of owners no longer having to make the hard choice of euthanasia or surrendering over behavioral issues (from nuisence to aggression) simply because they suffer from low income, including those who can not afford it at all.
We dream of a world where pet parents and animal trainers can educate themselves to be knowledgeable owners and workers, without using fear, force, or aggression tactics. Knowledge that they will lend their community simply because they have it, and it's the right thing to do.

We dream that we can get there, and we will. With your help, we can just get there a little sooner.

Mission Statement:
Mantra Pet seeks to empower humans in understanding and "speaking" to their companion and service animals. By doing so we repair broken bonds, rebuild bridges, and prepare the animals we share our lives with to be confident, happy, tolerant in everyday life. From animals recovering from severe phobias or the emotional damage of long term medical issues, to therapy/support/service animals looking to spread some joy and support into the world, to that new bundle of life you're just bringing into your home to just be your pal (from infant to adult animals), or needing help in picking the right one for you.

Our hope is to bring this ability to homes and owners who can not afford it and to shelters in need by combining the generosity of animals lovers, and to work towards the goal that for every paying client, another animal with unaffordable behavioral needs will be helped via free classes, consults, seminars, apprenticeship opportunities for new trainers, free behavior consulting for select daycares and veterinary services, and more.

Our goal is big, but by far not unattainable.

If we are able to bring this dream to a reality, our thanks at Mantra Pet will be beyond words. Every animal and owner aided by these services, as well as every new person we can help bring into the behavior field via apprenticeship, will not only be a reminder of the good you have allowed us to bring to this world.

It will also be just another way you say "No animal left behind", and add to the arduous effort of minimizing the need for shelters and behavioral euthanasia.

Our Story:
Tyber Murphy (CPDT-KA, CGC) began in the mid-to-late 1990's working with animals in their preteens, avidly insisting on pet sitting and training for all the neighbor's animals, especially if the animal had emotional issues or physical handicaps. In childhood it was already a way for Ty to work on their own emotional and social handicaps, and drove them to learn about psychology and behavior conditioning at a young age.

Like many that work in behavior modification, every time Ty has strayed elsewhere, they've found themselves coming back to it. Sometimes through their own life-changing pets who were in need of serious behavioral work (separation anxiety, aggression, phobias, medical issues, disabilities, resource guarding, PTSD, etc). Sometimes helping friends and neighbors and friends of friends with things as minor as puppy issues, and other times as serious as behaviors that would lead to surrendering or euthanasia.

Now, after working with an array of different species for nearly 15 years, the last four years as a Trainer & Behavioral Specialist at the Richmond SPCA (as of late 2015, teaching 15-18 classes a week), Ty is attempting to focus on their dream:

Sliding scale/low-cost private consulting and walking/care services that will then allow for:
⦁ more volunteer time to host free classes at local shelters, training homeless shelter animals
⦁ select pro-bono and pre-paid consultations to the public (as available via sponsored training sessions and volunteering at shelters/rescues)

Priding themselves in a holistic approach coming from a melding of proven and reinforced behavior modification therapy and cultural practices from their Mi'kmaq (Native Canadian/American) background, Ty's hope is to bring healing and success to every caretaker with an animal in need.

For animals (and people) with more "difficult" needs, Mantra Pet uses methods of psychological counseling, trauma therapy, confidence building, and anxiety management. "Impossible" pets are looked at from a scientific but compassionate view that pet and animal owners can empathize with easily, revealing the animal hiding under layers of stress and anxiety labeled as "aggression" often left untreated to the detriment (and often danger) of everyone involved.

For The "Tough Cookies", AKA The "Impossible" Animals

If your animal suffers from the following issues, Mantra Pet is here to help you and your animal heal:

⦁ "aggression" (reactivity to people, other animals, vehicles, etc...in small or large amounts, including the "I can never go outside", "we walk at 2AM", "people never come over my house" pets)
⦁ resource guarding ("aggression" over food, toys, personal space, etc)
⦁ fear/anxiety and phobias ("they hide when visitors come over", "____ scares them", "won't let me", "can't go near")
⦁ separation anxiety ("I can't leave them home alone!", "ate my wall", "breaks every crate we try")
⦁ overstimulation & hyperactivity ("never calms down", "drives me crazy when I get home!", "always jumping all over/play biting everyone!", "attacks me all the time - but I think he's playing I swear", "doesn't let me sleep!")
⦁ obsessive behaviors (constant barking/meowing/vocalizations, tail chasing, body mutilation, pacing, anxiety at windows, etc)
⦁ house training
⦁ issues at the vet
⦁ In-home aggression (at other pets, humans, etc)

Here's an extended look at the services Mantra Pet will be offering:

⦁ Low Cost Behavior Consulting (for issues similar to those listed above and more)
⦁ Walk + Train Sessions (training type catered to you and your pet)
⦁ Training Classes and Workshops (from basics to managing and minimizing reactivity, creating a calm animal, separation anxiety, resource guarding, therapy animal preparation, Canine Good Citizen, advanced manners of all kinds, etc)
⦁ Walks and Training for shelter dogs (Pro-bono/sponsored)
⦁ Pet sitting and walking for pets with physical and/or emotional special needs
⦁ Working with community shelters to create free classes for the public

This fundraiser will be helping Ty to fully establish a sliding scale/low cost behavior consulting, walking, and training business. It will also help create a smooth transition as they relocate from Richmond, VA to NY in late spring/early summer of 2016 as they rebuild their clientele.

The money raised can be put to use immediately as we design our website, business cards, and other related advertising. We are looking to get close to our goal by June of 2016.
