Springfield Gay Pride

Hello,
I am the Vice President of Equality Springfield. If you are unfamiliar with our organization please feel free to view our website at www.Equality-Springfield.org or find us on facebook under Equality Springfield. Our mission is to advocate for fair treatment and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender citizens in Springfield, Ohio. We have been around since 2010 and have always hoped to have a gay pride event in a less than favorable city. Last year with the help of local gay and gay friendly business's and citizens we were able to put on Springfields very first Pride event. Thank you to all who donated there time, money and efforts.
This year we are at it again . However we seemed to have dreamt up something a little bigger. So you know the signs that run on Fountain for different events in our downtown area ?? You know the ones .. typically for culture fest , holiday in the city , etc. Well we believe we should have signs up as well !!! For the entire month of June. PRIDE MONTH ! So we are at it again raising funds to get these flags up . Take a look at the beautiful signs and picture your smile as you drive down Fountain avenue engulfed in Rainbow Pride LOVE . Help us raise the funds to turn Fountain Avenue into Rainbow Alley !! DONATE , SHARE THIS GO FUND ME LINK . PRIDE EVENT JUNE 11th !! See ya there
By helping purchase these flags you will be helping raise the much needed awareness of the discrimination that lies in our home town. Here in Springfield you can be fired from you job, or evicted from your residence based on your sexual orientation. We have taken our concerns to our city commissioners and were shot down by a vote of 5 commissioners, 2 of which voted in our favor and 3 of which decided to let the discrimination continue. Lots of the LGBT community spoke to the human relations board as well. They too found " no discrimination" Its easy to see that when you do the math it equals continued discrimination. The process of informing the city commissioners of the discrimination that is faced in our own home town brought tears to many. As the evidence of discrimination was very clear, you could imagine the outrage when we found that our own city would continue such a radical law to be in place.
Though the road blocks continue to happen, we simply reroute. We continue working toward a Springfield where everyone feels at home, and this Gay pride event will help do just that. . Please feel free to contact the Vice President with any questions as we do hold a 501c3. Thank you for your time as well as your advocacy.
