Hi I’m Natalie,
I wouldn’t normally do this, I am a 27 year old female recently being diagnosed with tumour which is sitting on my spine which is causing severe pain down the left side of my body. After being in pain for over 18 months it’s been really hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. With many costs to the doctors, physiotherapists and other specialists it’s definitely been an expensive journey.
I have always been covered by my private health insurance until recently where the cost was becoming a little hard to keep up with. I then cancelled some of the cover and unfortunately now not covered for my surgery. I have been a member for over 27 years and only 2 months out of that cover I haven’t paid. During this stressful time I went back to my fund to see my options and after many hours on the phone they were not flexible and could not help.
My parents have been members for 30+ years and I have been for 27 years and for something like this to happen has really affected us a lot.
I now have to incur a large hospital bill of $17,000 + extras which really is something that will be hard for me and my family to manage.
The reason I am here is firstly to raise awareness that your health is very important you can’t put a price on it. On the other hand I want to show private health funds really are not always here to help and something should be done about it especially when there are people who are worse off and can’t afford such a service. Its hard when you have been a member for so long and for them the day before your surgery to tell you, your not covered anymore.
As I mentioned this is not something I would normally do and I do not expect much at all however if there is anything in the slightest anyone could help with it would mean the world.
