Ellen DeGeneres   BURBANK, CA
There’s an amazing school in Detroit that’s getting national attention right now and needs your help. At Spain Elementary Middle School, many of the students are underprivileged and homeless, but that’s not their only obstacle. Almost all of their technology doesn’t work, their entire roof is falling apart and their gym is completely shut down. Spain Elementary Middle School is in dire need of millions of dollars in renovations and we would love your help. Thank you for your attention and generosity in helping such an amazing school.

Lowe’s helped kick off donating to Spain Elementary with a $500k donation to help improve the school.

Watch Ellen surprise the students & faculty:

I would love to see help for all of the Michigan schools! Is there any way that instead of making one school over the top amazing, you can make all schools good? I just hate the thought of all of the other kids still being without! Thank you for all that you do Ellen!

This makes me really mad. There is no excuse for the American government to keep allowing low-income communities to go through this. I feel extremely sad for the students attending such schools like that. The government needs to step up their game and focus more on improving our education. I can only donate a small amount, but every small donation will make a big difference.

Thank you Ellen for being a strong voice for the DPS. This amazing donation will help them so much. I am on the board of Art Road which brings art back to schools in Detroit and I have volunteered at Spain helping to teach the classes, I know firsthand this will be much appreciated! artroadnonprofit.org

Ellen, you are amazing!!! Thank you for supporting Spain Elementary and its wonderful creative children. Another organization that deserves a shout-out for their commitment to Spain, is Art Road (artroadnonprofit.org) - tirelessly bringing art class back to Detroit Public Schools, with volunteers, art, and love. I'm a board member and Art Road is the best nonprofit I know. Please share! https://www.facebook.com/Art-Road-Nonprofit-83086194030/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel

This is wonderful. I wish the DPS debt could be paid in full so that money per student could go to the student and not the bulk of it to pay down past debt. It's so terribly sad. Rich districts within 30 minutes of DPS get their full money per student. Detroit students deserve as much

Thank you Ellen!!! God Bless you for helping these youngsters!!! The Governor and his Emergency ravaged the multi million DPS funds and left many schools like this in deplorable condition without being accountable. The children suffer because the government doesn't care!!! Now Spain can be warm and the students have the means be outstanding and attend the quality school it once was!!!

Hi Ellen, I think your drive for the school is awesome. But my concern is why are the parents allowing this school to do this to their children. The school receives federal dollars plus the city receives tax dollars. What is the school/city doing with these dollars? What about the lottery dollars that the state is to share with schools? I'd like to see an attorney come forward and do pro bona for these parents and find out just where these dollars are. That building is not fit for anyone to be in it. I'm surprised the students and staff are not sick. I love you Ellen. Keep on giving.

I just wish that this money went to all of the detroit public schools. Not only is spain elementary -middle school going through this, many of the schools in the district are dealing with similar conditions! I don't want the rest of the schools to go unheard! I appreciate all the help going out to spain though!

We are so grateful for Ellen sharing her passion for the needs of Detroit inner city schools with Lowes and for their generous donation to the students, teachers, staff of Spain School. I echo the prior sentiments posted regarding the value of education and the art education offered by the grass roots non-profit organization Art Road. I trust this will shine a bright light on Spain School and on Art Road!
