Space Station Design Winning Students Attend ISDC

AeroSpace Meridian, the Space Club team of Makua Lani Christian Academy in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, has won the Grand Prize in the National Space Society's Space Settlement Contest.

WHAT HAPPENED!
The contest is international, and this year featured 12,899 competitors representing 2,691 teams from the most academically competitive schools of India, China, South Korea, Romania, Taiwan, Turkey, Bulgaria and many other nations.
The grand prize entitles the Makua Lani team AeroSpace Meridian the privilege of presenting their project during the Governor's Dinner or Gala Event at the International Space Development Conference (ISDC) in Washington DC this June.
Dr. Al Globus of the NASA Ames Research Center oversees the competition.
Competitors are tasked with designing a self-sustaining orbital human habitat. Students must solve the problems of artificial gravity, astronautical physics, fuel and propulsion, resource acquisition, government operations, and any other dynamic of a human colony in space.
Josiah DeLuz has led the ASM team for two years. The ASM team contest entry included space settlement design by Austin Pham, radiation shield testing by Josiah Richards, fuel electrolysis by Nolan Pries, orbital transfer by Josiah DeLuz, lunar regolith transformation by Madeleina Wolcott, lunar resource base design by Logan Russell, asteroid deployment by Christian Williams, housing architecture by Hana Husek, space settlement logo by Jayde Whiting, space settlement musical anthem by Maya Calilao, and psychological profiles of volunteers by Raychelle Lorenzo.
Hana Husek chose the theme Scripture verse for the project: "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men" (Colossians 3:23).
WHY WE ARE FUNDRAISING!
As Grand Prize winners, AeroSpace Meridian has the honor of presenting their space settlement design at either the Governor's Dinner or the Gala Event at ISDC2019 in Washington DC. The ISDC is June 6 to 9.
All eleven (11) team members are planning to attend, which is quite an expense, expected to be well over $15,000.
Airfare for 11 students and 2 chaperones ~ $7800
Hotel for 11 students and 2 chaperones ~ $4500
These may be low estimates.
Naturally, there are additional expenses for meals and taxi.
The Space Club students have been fundraising since September (long before they completed the project); they will receive a travel stipend. The Space Club account and monies receiving is estimated less than half of what is needed for the trip.
