Casey's Social Justice Podcast

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Casey-Anne Bradfield and I am a graduate from the University of Toronto's Criminology Porgram, I write a blog about relationships at www.motivatingrelationships.com, I am also an author and Self-Actualization Faciliatator who provides the tools and resources to improve oneself and one's brand at www.caseybe.com. The idea for the Social Justice Podcast and Research Project came to me in a series of both dreams and lucid moments, you see when I'm not reflecting on the social realities of my existence, I'm dreaming of a better world. I was raised into a broken family, and in the care of my single mother who had spent a great portion of her childhood as a ward of the state, which I have noticed seems to have left a significant mark on her adult life.

Growing up on the poverty line, in the heart of Toronto, I experienced a number of troubling things first hand, like "seeing a baby taken away at birth from its mother by the police" or "sitting in court, watching someone close to me get caught up in the criminal justice system after experiencing a sudden and unexpected episode of impaired mental health" and it is narratives like these, coupled with the ones I hear on the news everyday that have set me on a mission for answers, solutions and social change.

I don't point fingers at any one person or group for the problems I've witnessed or experienced, I understand that institutionalized shortfalls are nuanced and that these are extremely complex issues and that solving these issues will be even more complex. I merely know that more work and time needs to be dedicated into these areas and I feel it is my life's mission to do this work.

The money raised here will be used to conduct the research, using necessary research tools like (JSTOR and access to other academic portals), to create the podcast, and purchase the tools necessary to create the podcast, to create an informational video, and to write and edit the policy papers.

The podcast will feature conversations with the relevant experts including university professors, police officers, and corporate execs and will also follow the development of the project as we answer the three questions. The podcast also helps to incorporate the public in the discovery process and takes the listener on a journey into the world of social justice.

In order to successfully begin this project and dedicate the time required to undergo this research and create the podcast, Casey will require funding immediately. Unfortunately, as a young business owner, blogger and author from a low income family, following your dreams isn't always an option but I refuse to let finances hold me back from helping my community.

This is more than one girl who grew up facing difficulties, this is about all of the children who run away from home, are kicked out, are abused, and end up in children's aid or foster care. This is also about the people killed from police, the police who were killed and also to help build a police culture that everyone can be proud of, and finally its about understanding our history and learning about what social movements work and how to effectly produce change today so we can continually build a better world.

With this funding, not only will I be forever grateful but you will get a great podcast, you'll get two published policy papers to use to lobby for governmental change and you will get a video that provides you with useful information on how to produce social change.

Thank you for your consideration,
Casey
