JMU Family,
Coby Branch, teammate, classmate, brother and JMU Football family suffered a life changing asthma attack that caused paralysis and blindness. As Coby's Mother recalls, Coby was unresponsive and stopped breathing during the asthma attack at a friend’s house where he was immediately carried by helicopter to the hospital. Following the asthma attack, his Mother was unsure if he would survive.
Today Coby is celebrating his 23rd Birthday! Since, May of 2014 he has been working to regain mobility and speech. He operates in a wheel chair and is under the care of his sweet mother Cheryl Branch who is with him 24/7. His sight is still questionable but we continue to pray for healing and doctors believe that he will eventually be able regain all that he has lost (no timetable). This situation has dramatically impacted their everyday life.
Coby was always polite and carries a smile on his face no matter the situation or circumstance even still today. Athletically, Coby Branch was one of the fastest guys on the team and a great wide reciever. His illness put a hault in his efforts towards receiving a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and being a tremendous asset to the team and university. He would have been a contrubtuing senior to this amazing 2016 JMU Football team.
God has put it on my heart to support, pray, and encourage the Branch family along this journey of recovery through giving, prayer, presence, meals and more. Some days are better than others but despite it all Coby is still making progress towards full recovery. There are many ways to bless the Branch family beside this effort.
